About Carmelo: A small rural town over River Las Vacas ( The cows) w/ 20 thousand inhab.( 15 thousand in Carmelo city) living on farming, winnerys and tourism. Major tourist attractions are:
a) Carmelo Four Seasons
b) Puerto Camacho and Club de Campo el Faro.
c) Restaurant "Narbona" from el Pacha Cantel: (A Argy that developed Puerto Camacho and the Club) thou expensive is a MUST.
e) A walk in the city
f) One hour from Colonia.

Highlights of the F. Seasons :
a) Location ( In front of the beautifull Uruguay river, ondulated sandy lands sorrounded by Eucaliptus forests, the superb Bungalows, are Imo the best choice for lodging.
b) The Spa, the Spa ! superb.
c) Service , excellent, pro and friendly.
d) Food was very good, we enjoyed alot the cooking classes with María Esperanza the Pattisier and her recipee for Alfajores.
e)Activities ( Water act. bikes, polo, golf, visits to close spots. A place you can go w/ kids

Best way to travel to Carmelo: La Cacciola fast boat from Tigre city leaving every day 8,30 am (after 2 hours croosing of the Rio de la Plata, you will be to Carmelo pier over Arroyo las Vacas). A Taxi should pick you up ( unless the hotel forgetts to pick you up as happened to us) . Cost by boat both ways U$S 55 per pax.

Taxis : Always hire private ones , the hotel doubles the fee.

Winnerys: There are a couple of winneys to visit. The Tannat kept in Oak might be a nice surprise to wine tasters...The Narbona restaurant sells Tannat botle for U$S 40 each. its (produced in their vineyards proceesed at Bodegas IRURTIA). The also produce their own cheeses.

Polo / Golf : Excellent proposals for fans . Polo clinics for U$S 50 per hour with Huber Robiralta (ex Susana Gimenez husband). The Golf field is amazing.

Bottom line: KUDOS for the Fours Seasons.. Excellent choice for 3/5 days of relax.

My husband and I stayed at the Four Seasons Carmelo for 5 nights in March 2006. Took the ferry over from Buenos Aires and were met by a Four Seasons driver in Colonia. Took the 45 minute drive back to Carmelo and arrived at the stunning property that is the Four Seasons.

The grounds are very serene and have a zen like quality. The architecture and ambiance provide a wonderful complement to the beautiful eucalyptus forest. Since the property only has 44 rooms, the service is exceptional and it was not crowded at all. The pool is fantastic, although it was a bit cold while we were there. Food was a bit cheaper than other Four Seasons properties we have visited, but quite good. We had the bi-level suite and loved it. It is very large for a hotel room and beautifully decorated to complement the grounds.

The available activities at the Four Seasons and surrounding the property made our visit exceptional. We had several visits to the spa on the property and enjoyed all of our treatments. Additionally, we recommend highly a visit for dinner to the Finca Narbona winery. We had a private dinner in a historical building, definately the highlight of the trip. We additionally spent an afternoon at another local winery, with a personal guide from the Four Seasons. All of these wonderful activities were set up through the hotel staff.

We highly recommend the Four Seasons Carmelo and hope to return soon!

My husband & I just returned from a fabulous stay at the Four Seasons Carmelo. I am already looking for a way to return -- what an amazing resort!

We booked a bi-level suite as part of the spa package. What a great value -- we were treated to two spa treatements each during our visit in the incredible spa. The spa staff and facilities are A+ -- one of the best spas I have visited.

Our suite was beautiful, spacious and comfortable. Since the weather was cool during our visit (late autumn in South America), we spent a fair amount of time in our suite. We really enjoyed having the two levels and appreciated all of the luxurious touches.

The resort grounds are peaceful and beautiful. While we observed a few families with young children, the majority of guests were adults/couples during our stay. The resort seems a little quiet for kids -- this feels like more of an adult get-away to me. However, they do have a childrens play area that looked quite nice.

One of the highlights of our trip was a dinner at Narbona -- a winery about 10 minutes from the resort. Narbona is an intimate restaurant (about 6 tables) in a 100-year old winery.

We traveled to the Four Seasons via Buquebus (high speed ferry) from Buenos Aries to Colonia. The resort had reserved tickets for us in advance (we picked up our tickets at the ferry station). We were met by a Four Seasons van at the ferry station in Colonia -- the entire trip takes about 2 hours from Buenos Aries.

Certainly the best part of the Four Seasons Carmelo is the staff. We were always greeted by name throughout the resort grounds and treated like royalty in a very humble, respectful way. Every time we felt nothing else could be done to exceed our expectations, another staff member would delight us again.

This is a very special place and well worth the long trip. We will return!

We stayed for the second time at this grand spot in Uruguay for a couple of days before going on our honeymoon cruise.

We have enjoyed our visit to an extreme, they really treat you like royalty over there!

Service is amazing, staff are extremely helpful though not invading and you always have everything you need even before you ask for it!

This time we decided to try the hotel's restaurant Pura. The food was awesome! Really enjoyed it so much that we decided to stay there for dinner every single night.

The SPA is the best we have stayed at. The pool overlooking the forest is just grand, we recommend you to go there over tha day and not anly ay nicht, so you can enjoy the great setting.

We stayed in a "bungalow" an extremely luxurious room of more than 100m2, absolutely private an ideal for couples.

However, we found most food and beverages very pricey compared to what we know the costs in Uruguat are. This is an excellent place but if you go from ARgentina you should be aware that prices are like any other place of the world.

If you are looking for a great place, top pf the world service to indulge yourself for a couple of days, this is definitely your spot!

We stayed 5 days at this wonderful hotel, with our 5-year-old daughter, and we loved it! The staff is so caring and attentive, the hotel is beautiful, the pool is amazing, and the rooms absolutely fantastic, couldn't be better!!! Most people might say it is not the best place to bring your kids, and I kind of agree, but our daughter really enjoyed herself with the staff at the kids club, and also in the pool or just exploring the resort's grounds. It is truly a beautiful place, and the food is also very good. The spa is pretty cool, and the massages excellent. Just go and see for yourself - we are definitely going back.

We spent several days at this absolutely wonderful hotel recently after a trip to Antarctica, and 5 hectic days in Buenos Aires and Iguassu Falls.
Within a short time you will be soothed into a lagniappe of sorts, and experience true service, excellent dining, and accommodations that are more than 6 star!
Everyone, from front desk staff( Maria and Fabrizio are very helpful), dining room and room service staff, are completely kind, sincere, and go way past what is expected.
We had the opportunity to have a special celebratory dinner in the gazebo on our last night. In advance, we were asked about the wines we wanted, specific food etc. It was a very memorable evening, as was each and every day there. Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Four Seasons in Carmelo with our 16 month old baby. It is a lovely property. The pool is gorgeous and the bungelow was great and private.
We hired a babysitter a few times and they always sent us the same young woman which was really wonderful for our baby. We enjoyed touring Colonia which is about an hour away. It is more than a port city and quite enjoyable to walk around. Carmelo is very rural and there is not much to do off the resort. We like to explore around. The hotel has many options such as an Uruguayan Barbeque, picnics, etc. It is an intimate resort so you recognize the staff and the visitors. One evening we went to the local marina for pizza which was fun. We also went to two vineyards. Our only disappointment was the food at the hotel which we found to be quite average. The Four Seasons really needs to improve the dining experience at Carmelo. Overall, we had a great time.
