Colonia Suite Apartments

We had planned on staying three nights but ended up with four. Did not want to leave Colonia, and did not want to leave the Colonia Suite. The rooms all have a very different character, reflecting the diversity of the owner, the very accommodating, extremely knowledgeable and very pleasant Mr. Fred. A great breakfast is served every morning either in the lovely court yard or in the kitchen which oozes character.
As for location: It is perfect. A five minute stroll to Historic Colonia, and blocks away from the locals hangouts like the El Porton Restaurant and others which serve excellent food for better prices than the popular Old Town restaurants. Fred's recommendations for Restaurants is spot on, as is his suggestion for a Tour and tasting at Uruguay's oldest Winery.
Both Senor Fred and the Colonia Suites make one feel like Family once you have stayed a night, wishing you were staying for a month.

Room Tip: All Rooms have great décor, comfortable beds and lots of Mr. Fred's personal Art and personality...

Just stayed two nights in this unexpectedly wonderful, welcoming B&B. Our host Fred attended to whatever we needed. We stayed upstairs in a spacious room with sitting area and kitchenette. The walls are filled with Fred's art and that of others. Browse through his collection of art and travel books and choose from a selection of movies. It's a half block from the main street and a park yet quite tranquil. What a treat!

Just stayed the one night but could go back and spend a whole week there - hope on day we will. Lovely accommodation full of character in a super town. Fred was very hospitable. Breakfast in the garden was a treat. Thoroughly recommend.

Fred is a very pleasant host and breakfast in the garden is a highlight. The location is very good as it's easy to park and only 5 minutes walk from the historic district. The living rooms are cool and decorated in a very comfortable bohemian style which makes one feel very much at home. Our room in the garden had the benefit of a small kitchen area and was pleasant for a couple of nights stay. Fred provides good advice on where to go and is also good company. A very good B & B from which to see Colonia.

What a wonderful place to encounter. I found it on Booking.com & found the photos of it entrancing but the reality was better. The rooms are really well decorated with quite lovely touches. We were welcomed by Jaky who was so helpful to us. Our room (in the rear patio) was calm & cool in the enervating heat & a terrific place to rest your head. When we came back to our ´B&B´ at night we could sit in the Living Room & listen to music surrounded by warm lights, books, plants & comfortable sofas. A memorable visit to Colonia made all the more memorable by our stay in this great superb house.

Unlike most tourists that come to Colonia, we spent 3 nights in town. Colonia Suite was just what we needed to reload our batteries before going back to Buenos Aires. Very nice B&B, stylished decorated, our Miró room was big and comfortable, everything was great. The owner, Fred, also provides good advice about Buenos Aires.

Room Tip: We stayed at the Miró room, and there are only two others. All of them seemed alright.

We stayed at Colonia Suite in January and this was definitely the best part of our trip to Uruguay. Within just a short stroll from the old part of Colonia this B&B is run by Fred who speaks very good English & French and was the ideal host. Luckily we booked the Garden Balcony Suite which is spacious and has everything you need for staying several days and a huge comfy bed for an excellent nights sleep. The kichenette is decent sized so it's easy to pop out to the local supermarket and get supplies if you fancy preparing a light meal in for the day. But what made this such a special stay is that the breakfasts by Jaqui were simply the best we had in all of Uruguay! Served in the small private courtyard out back this included fresh fruit salad, European style bread rolls baked each morning, eggs and cheese and lots lots more ~ and the coffee was delicious. Colonia Suite is highly recommended and we will definitely stay there again when we return to Uruguay next year for our second visit!
