We had a great two day stay at El Galope in Sept 13. We expected it to be busier but as it was out of season there was just us staying, which turned out well as we had the whole place to ourselves. The farm is quite easily accessible by bus, between Colonia and Montevideo and is set in beautiful countryside. The owners Monica and Miguel are great and attentive without being imposing.

We rode bikes into the town, played with the very friendly dogs, read books, visited Victoria's goat farm in the village, which was lovely. Went for a long walk and had a riding lesson with Miguel which was amazing. The horses are great and well trained and Miguel is a great teacher and running a very professional school.

We took our own lunches and then Monica made our dinner both nights, which were very tasty. We also had two bottles of local Uruguayan red wine, which was good.

On our last night we had a sauna and sat outside looking at the millions of stars and the Milky Way.

All in all, if you are looking for a countryside adventure and total relaxation then El Galope is a great choice.

Hello and sorry for the delayed answer. Thank you so much for your coment and rating.
No it is getting more bussy at last and the weather is really nice. At night there are not only stars, but the land is full of beautiful bright fireflies.
It is really helpful for both travellers and us.
All the best
Miguel and Monica

When we arrived at El Galope, it was raining... a lot! Thankfully, Monica (the owner) showed us into the main common area which was beautifully warm thanks to the open fire! Check-in was easy and everything is done with a tab system, whereby you write down which meals, drinks and activities you do and then pay at the end which is very convenient. Even though the weather meant we couldn't horse-ride like we'd hoped to, we enjoyed relaxing in the cosy common area and playing card games with other guests. Meals provided on site were tasty and had big portions, and breakfast in the morning was simple but nice. Our room was decorated in a rustic style and had a heater which was definitely needed. The only issue was there seemed to be some mouse droppings on the floor, however we didn't see any mice! Also, don't go here if you don't like dogs, as they have 3 and they can get a little... boisterous!

We enjoyed our short stay at El Galope and would love to go back in better weather!

Even though it rained all 3 days we stayed here, we still had a great time. Good place to relax and get away from everything. Clean, well maintained rooms and bathrooms, good rustic charm. Friendly owners and good, large homemade meals. Cozy common area with fireplace. Would love to go back sometime when it is not raining!

El galope is a beautiful and friendly 'hostel' . As soon as I arrived I regreted not having booked a longer trip! The place is beautifully decorated, the hosts Monica and Miguel are incredibly welcoming. As soon as we arrived we had a cheese fondue and the most beautiful homemade icecream, they gave us artisanal wine that was made by their friends, which was also delicious. During our 1 day in colonia suiza we got the chance to visit Victoria Goat farm where we holded baby goats and even saw a birth!
I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is looking for a cosy and relaxing place to stay, whether in family, with friends, alone or as a couple but definitely try to stay for more than one night!

Wonderful owners and great antidote to the "work" of being on the road. We had fun visiting the goat farm, riding horses and using the hammocks. We were there during the winter, and with colder facilities and less time to spend outside I'd have to recommend it more for the other three seasons. Breakfast was beautifully set although just bread and butter. We recommend the bike riding!

What a fantastic place to stay! During our 10 day trip to BA, we knew we wanted to visit the countryside for a couple of nights. After reading a little about El Galope we booked two nights, which ended up being the highlight of our entire trip. We wish we could have stayed longer. Monica and Miguel were perfect hosts--very warm and attentive and offered lots of information about the local area. The food served at the hostel is hearty and satisfying and the local wine available is also very good. The rooms and common areas are very clean and comfortable with lots of places to sit/lounge outdoors while sipping wine and enjoying the beautiful views. We rode bikes to the goat farm nearby for a short tour and cheese tasting and we ended up buying a small block to take back to enjoy with our wine. Horseback riding wasn't available on site during our stay (due to owner's hand injury), but Miguel arranged a trail ride with a nearby ranch and we still had a great time riding. (We were still able to feed and interact with the horses on site at El Galope.) Overall, we had a great time and would highly recommend a stay here!

We stayed 2 nights at El Galope and had a fantastic experience. The place is just beautiful and Miguel and Monica are great hosts and very welcoming. I have never rode a horse before and Miguel made me feel like a German gaucho after just one lesson:-) Also, if you don't like horse riding it's a great place to hang out and relax!
We highly recommend El Galope!
