“A good day trip from Montevideo”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

Spent a Sunday walking around the old part of the city. Very interesting seeing the old houses, climbing up the lighthouse and enjoying the history of the city. It’s about a 90 minute drive from Montevideo. Much of the streets in the city have the original stone streets and can be slippery when wet.

“Day trip from Buenos Aires”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

The World Heritage listed heart of Colonia del Sacramento makes an excellent day trip from Buenos Aires. I went with Buquebus and it only takes one hour on their fast catamaran. Make sure you give yourself enough time once you get over to the Uruguay side. Uruguay is one hour ahead of Argentina and suddenly I had half the time to explore than I initially thought. The historic centre is a wonderfully tranquil headland, surrounded by water on three sides. It is just five minutes walk along Av Gran Flores.

“Mystical”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

It's a truly incredible place like no other. Peaceful and picturesque, it feels like being in a paiting all the time. There are beautiful cafes and restaurants. I recommend going for a walk at night, the lanterns and the peace make a great atmosphere.

“A great contrast to Buenos Aires”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

We were visiting BA and decided to get out of the city for a break. We took the Buquebus 1 hour ferry to Colonia Uruguay. It was an oasis of tranquility after the hustle and bustle of the BIG city. We spent several hours in the old city exploring and eating and shopping. The tourist information as you debark is well worth a visit to get an idea of the history of the area and Uruguay.
