It doesn't take long to visit this place, but it's a must-see and you can make great pics there. Walking around Colonia is the best thing to do so as to slow down and feel the vibe.

Você visita este lugar rapidinho, logo, tem que ir. Você pode faer fotos incriveis por lá. Andar por Colonia é a melhor coisa a se fazer para ir mais devagar e sentir a "vibe" da cidade.

“Nice city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

Colonia is a very nice small city. I think 1 day trip is totally enough. you can walk everywhere, so i think there is no point to take hop-on-hop-off bus which is 25$.

“Nice views from the top”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

Take the lighthouse tour, it only costs 20 pesos ($1). The stairs are narrow but worth the view once you get to the top. You can get a good view of the old city and Rio de la Plata.

The panoramic view is excellent to understand what are the limits of this beautiful World Heritage Site.

“Colonia is lovely, but pricey day trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

Many go over to Colonia from Buenos Aires,Argentina to renew their tourist visa for another 90 days, but that's a very expensive idea, and better just to go to the immigration office and do the paperwork for $30. My son did the latter, so we just went over for a day trip to see the town,( in late May- not too many tourists then, ) as it is described as quite nice and picturesque. The high speed ferry ( 50 Minutes) costs about $100pp ( 800 pesos), and is the best way, as the slower one takes 3 hrs one way. Once there, the historic center is charming, lovely photo shots, the lighthouse is quite nice if you can manage the climb, cheap admission. It was very pleasant to wander around, we walked up to the town center, nice little park, not much in the way of shopping. However, the price of food there, whether in the center or the historic area, is quite a bit higher than Buenos Aires. Everything seemed to be double, and I have no idea how the locals afford to dine out. Even ice cream was double the cost of BA. A basic lunch, sandwiches with soda/water cost $40 for two of us.. A coffee with croissant in the am was $10 for two. So, it ended up being a $270 day for some pretty shots and not great food. Maybe in the summer when one can go to the beach, there might be more value to the trip.
