“Nice view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

Wonderful view from the top, but the stairs to there are too narrow. At the top, wind is very strong. On the other hand, if you visit in a clear day it is possible to see some shadows of Buenos Aires buildings. Of course there is also a wonderful view of La Plata River. I reccomend it.

“Pretty view of a nicely preserved colonial town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

As far as views go, this isn't the most spectacular. As far as design goes, this isn't the prettiest lighthouse you will see. However, given the cheap admission and the ability to get a top-down sense of the historic district of Colonia, this lighthouse is worth a visit.

As other reviewers have mentioned, Colonia is a short express ferry ride from Buenos Aires (about an hour) and if you have a day to spend, it is absolutely worth it.

I do recommend visiting on a weekday if you can to avoid the weekend crowds coming from the big cities.

I've written about this some more at the Gentleman Backpacker if you have the time to read a longer review.

“Good View”

It's worth climbing the steps of the lighthouse - great 360degree views and photo opportunities. Only $20 peso - so good value too!

“A nice afternoon away from the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

Colonia is just a 50 minute boat ride from downtown Buenos Aires, but a complete change. The city was very calm and relaxing, but do know that an afternoon is plenty of time to take in the entire town. We ate at a cheerful restaurant in the old town called El Pharmacy, that had nice seafood. Some people we met on the boat were going to spend a couple days in Colonia, but to us this would have been too much time.

Only 40 mins ferry from Buenos Aires. Loved this charming and relaxing city. Perfect for couples, families and seniors in search for tranquility and a place to enjoy peace and quiet.
