“Charming place to stay, feels like home”
Reviewed 26 April 2011

I stayed here for 4 nights on 2 separate occasions and agree that it is a very nice place with a great atmosphere and friendly service (although English is not spoken). The furnishings are relatively old but this gives it a quaint feeling. Rooms on the ground floor are more noisy, try and go for a first floor room. Even in the first floor room I stayed you could hear the noise coming from downstairs, for instance the phone ringing (once or twice even during the night, it would be better if they use an answering machine). Breakfast is a bit sparse (no cereal for instance). There is a nice lounge room where you can hang out, read a book, which is good as the room is not that big. Wifi is free and worked well. I would definitely recommend this place, but don't expect a modern decor.

I also stayed one night in El Capullo which is nearby (because del Angel was full). Its furnishings are much more modern and definitely better than here, but still I preferred del Angel because of its friendlier service, nicer atmosphere and I could get an upstairs room which was more quiet than my ground floor room at El Capullo for roughly the same price. Breakfast is a bit better at El Capullo.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying here two nights last week in Uruguay. It was absolutely excellent! Quiet street, comfortable room, great breakfast, beautiful pool in the back, and excellent location. I would definitely recommend!

We chose this hotel based on reviews read here and were not disappointed. It is a tastefully converted family house, clean and comfortable. The staff is welcoming and always ready to help.
The Posada is ideally located at the edge of the historic quarter, on a pretty, quiet street, half a block from the river. The rooms are small but comfy, and considering the cost of accommodation in Colonia, keenly priced. It is worth considering that if you pay cash you have a 10% discount (ask first). My only complaint is that, in the first room where we stayed, there were hangers but no shelves, so we had to keep our things in our bags.
There is a pretty garden with a swimming pool (much like you would find in a week-end house) and a gym which we did not use but seemed well stocked.
Based on the pictures, we thought it would feel a bit cramped, but rooms and common areas are fresh and airy.
Breakfast is good, if not very abundant. I found the toast inedible, in line with all bread I’ve tried elsewhere in Uruguay.
They let you use their fridge to keep things (like water, soda or yogurt) and even eat there if you order food.
You will notice I did not rate “sleep quality”. The fact is we slept very well both nights we spent there, but on the second one (in a different room since our initial reservation was for just one night) a humming noise (like a running engine) could be heard. I managed to fall asleep but woke up at 11.30pm, when the sound became so strong some of the furniture vibrated. It was worse with your head on the pillow. I had to get up and call the night watchman, who told me it was the water pump. I replied I could not sleep through that noise and asked him into our room to show him how bad it was there. He acknowledged the problem and we were moved to another room, but we had to pack and carry our things across at midnight, and I do not know what would have happened if the hotel had been full and there were no other available rooms to move into.
They said they did not know what that could be, that is was not the water pump, but I believe it was. Something to take into account when choosing a room.

Posada del Angel is a refreshing change from the lukewarm service we have experienced both in Uruguay and Argentina. Here, they think of everything. Clean, quaint rooms. Full service breakfast. Spotless pool in an idyllic garden setting. Friendly, outgoing and helpful staff and all in the perfect location. Posada del Angel has figured out that customer service counts and travellers, when on the road, like to feel at home. A lovely experience!

With attention to customer service unfortunately so rare in these parts, Posada del Angel is a real breath of fresh air. The rooms are really cute and the angel theme right down to the faux-dome fresco in the lobby is charming. The service staff caters to and even anticipates any demand. Close to both the ferry/bus terminals and the historic barrio, Posada del Angel seems to me the perfect base from which to explore beautiful Colonia del Sacramento.

Stayed here for a night which is more than enough to see Colonia. Good location, a very short walk to the old town and 5mins to the bus station. Staff are very friendly and there is good wifi throughout. Breakfast is basic but fine. Rooms are nothing special but pleasant enough with aircon and cable tv and nice and quiet.

We stayed two nights at the Posada del Angel and were very glad that we chose this wonderful gem of a place in Colonia. It is close to the bus and boat terminals as well as to the historic area, so it has a great location for easy walking.
The rooms are small, but quaint and adequate – a much more interesting experience than staying in a hotel. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. My only suggestion for improvement would be to have a duvet cover (or a sheet over the duvet) so it can be cleaned with the linen. The TV has several satellite channels in English. The shower had plenty of hot water and was very cozy. The first room (#1) we were shown was not satisfactory to us as it opened right onto the street, so we were given the opportunity to be upstairs (overlooking the street) where we felt more secure (#10).
The lounge room and breakfast room are both sunny, bright areas. The interior open stairway is a lovely area with a huge skylight. The garden and pool area is delightful. There is a tiny restaurant next door that makes excellent food at very reasonable prices and will deliver to the hotel.
Two of the ladies who work at the hotel (Monica & Mariela) were extremely helpful and kind to us. Their hospitality really made us feel welcome and comfortable at the Posada del Angel. It is staff like Monica and Mariela who really made our stay extra special and memorable. We highly recommend this posada in Colonia!
