The decor here is only part of the fun. There are old cars parked in front with tables inside for dining. Lots of street side tables and more inside the colorfully decorated dining room. The kitchen is open and in the front so you can watch the cooks hard at work.
The menu and food quality are what really puts this place in the #1 spot in CDS. Self-described "foodies" (if you are, please stop, blechhh!) would love this place. The menu does a Lot of creative things by blending Uruguayan foods with those of other cultures, but still do a great job with the standards. The beer is served in champagne buckets; welcome on a warm afternoon.
Despite the ubiquitousness of the Mate drinkers in Uruguay, it is really hard to find a place that will serve it. The drugstore is the only place we could find where you could actually buy a serving of Yerba Mate. The server was patient in explaining how it works and made the experience fun.
