“Underwhelming...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2010

We paid $35 for this hotel and were told that we were to have a balcony overlooking the pool. We were given a poolside room (no balcony and almost in the pool) that was noisy and also meant that we could not open our curtains lest someone looked in.

Throughout our stay there was no hot water in the shower (asked twice) and the aircon unit was not able to significantly cool the room to a decent level. Room was of a decent size and the bed reasonably comfortable although there were cobwebs in places.

Breakfast was reasonable but you had to rise early if you wanted to grab yourself a table as the dining area is ridiculously small.

I would think that there are better options for the price out there than this hotel.

All the reviews are indicative of our stay here, and while we really enjoyed our stay here, there are a few things worth adding.... firstly the top floor rooms are uninsulated, and the aircons cant cope with the heat from the tiles, so better stay on the lower floors which are much cooler...secondly the breakfast room cannot cope if the hotel is nearing capacity so better get in before 7.30.
The front staff are delightful and would have no problems staying here again.

The staff were friendly, the room was gorgeous and clean with spa tub, balcony, mini fridge, and comfortable bed. The pool was great and the breakfasts had everything from croissants and fruit, Vietnamese dishes, pancakes, coffee, cereal, etc... Great breakfasts. When we arrived we were asked to take part in a festival and we agreed. The next day they had costumes fitted to us (oddly enough we wore western wedding gear and another couple wore traditional Vietnamese wedding costumes), had my hair and makeup done, paid for all our taxis, and our entrance into the festival which included food, beer, and entertainment. We had such a wonderful stay and I loved this hotel. The rooms were at the top end of our budged ($30/night) but it was well worth it!!!

Thanks Long Life!!

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The rooms were beautiful and clean and we loved the pool! Breakfast was fantastic. Great location right on the river. We used the bikes several days which made for fun sight-seeing. The only negative thing was that the bathroom, in a room for four people, didn't have a door. The service was great, very friendly. They definately have their preferred businesses to push, although they don't tout - but it was humorous that as soon as we asked about a different cooking school or tailor, they suddenly didn't speak enough English to help us locate it.

The reception staff - Anh, Hong, Thy, Triet and Vu - made my stay in Hoi An one of the most enjoyable life experiences. The facilities at the hotel were second to none, the room service crew always willing to please, the breakfast crew set me up for the day and the location absolutely perfect. A solo traveller relies on the kindness of strangers, so this staff have set the bar high. Thank you for making each day special and inviting.

Wow. The Long Life Riverside was probably the nicest hotel we stayed in during two months in Asia. The facility is brand new and really top notch, but won't break the bank. We paid $35 (off season) for a HUGE pool-view room with all of the amenities you can imagine (including a computer in the room). Location is great, riverside and right by the center of town, and the breakfast is INCREDIBLE. And, the pool is great for a quick dip on a really hot day. We felt really spoiled staying here. The only reason I give this place four stars is because we did have one disappointing experience with the staff at the front desk, who we felt tried to scam a few extras dollars out of us by changing the price of a motorbike rental after the fact. Not a big deal, but left a mark on an otherwise perfect experience. And, we should have followed our own common sense rule: always write down the agreed upon terms and price beforehand.

This hotel has a lot of potential to be great but really fell short. Our first impression was excellent, considering the free pick-up, the very friendly greeting, the great location on the riverbank, and the beautiful room. The whole hotel was decorated very nicely with dark wood and nice architecture. The pool was beautiful and cool and the free water and bananas in the room were a nice touch. The breakfast was a nice buffet but when we got there after 9 am one day, they had run out of many items and said there were no more. The bathroom was spacious but the tub/shower configuration was absurd. The shower head was located slightly in front of the tub and shot water out in many directions causing the entire bathroom floor to get soaked and very slippery. This was even worse considering we had no bathmat. Also, two pretty paper lanterns hung over the tub and although they looked nice, they were in the way when showering and we constantly bumped into them.

Many of the staff members were friendly but when we had actual concerns, they proved not to be very helpful. It is also ridiculous that when we spoke to one of the girls at the front desk about our upcoming bus trip with a company across town, she said she would call to confirm our seats. As she picked up the phone and dialed the number, she said we would be charged per minute for the local call. Considering the price of the hotel and that this was a quick local call, we told her to hang up and walked all the way across town to confirm our seats. The absolute worst aspect of this hotel that forces us not to recommend it is the horrible a/c. After being in the room for two hours with the a/c on full blast, we were left with a warm room. The staff sent up two men to fix it but after three hours, it was still the same. They showed us two additional rooms that we could move to but they had equally poor a/c that was cool only if you stood right underneath it. When we asked for a fan, they said that they did not have one so we had to stay in a warm room the whole time. This hotel is definitely nice to look at and has some nice features but with air-conditioning this bad, it was just uncomfortable. For this price, especially in Vietnam, you should at least be able to have a cool room, a working shower, and reception that will confirm your travel plans.
