“a well worth trip staying in this hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2010

it's about 5-8 minutes away from the old quarters. no frills but this hotel is well worth the price we paid for. 500,000 dongs net/night inclusive of buffet breakfast. rooms are very well maintained and reasonably sized. with cable tv, mini bar, idd telephones, air conditioning system, quiet and comfortable.
it has internet facilities in the lobby area and a small swimming pool for those who wish to relax and do some sun-tanning?
free shuttle downtown is available and for $1.00 one way you get a shuttle to the beach area. remember no frills but very down to earth accommodation and economical.

I booked a standard double for $US22 online, and my first impression on having seen the room was that I had booked a good value place. The rooms are relatively new and spacious, and well-equipped with A/C, cable TV, mini-bar, bath-tub, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities, sofa, and in-room wifi (n.b. my room was on the first floor and had excellent connectivity, however I had heard that other guests upstairs could not connect to the wifi at all). With all this said, however, on closer inspection the rooms are quite filthy, and during our week stay the only thing the cleaners seemed to do was change our towels. Additionally, the pool was perfect for breeding disease, as it was swimming with dirt and skin-particles. Unfortunately, as is the case with a lot of new establishments in Vietnam, this lack of regular maintenance will see this hotel decay into the earth very quickly.

One positive about this hotel was it's location. It is only a short walk (or complimentary shuttle bus ride for those who are against exercise) into all the sites of the Hoi An old city, and yet still far enough away as to provide sanctuary from all those annoyances that are associated with the main tourist strip and backpacker bars.

The worst thing about this hotel, during my stay at least, was the attitude of many of the other guests towards the hotel staff. One afternoon, for example, a group of young women initiated a very heated, hour-long argument with staff concerning the hotel's quite clearly advertised 'late check-out fees.' As a fellow foreign tourist, I was dreadfully ashamed of their behaviour, and at one stage I even considered paying the disputed $US12 myself, just to save the further embarrassment of everyone present in the hotel lobby.

We asked for a room at thanh van 1 first and were told that they have one in their second hotel for the same price. once there it suddenly was 5$ more expensive.

room was big, clean, new and with a big bathroom and tub.
breakfast was also okay.

BUT: it was very loud. thin walls (could hear people in other rooms talk) & right next to a very busy street.

staff was not very friendly.

most important: hotel is rather far away from the center. There are bicycles included though...

We paid $22 US for standard room. It was a huge room, far bigger than anything else I've had in Vietnam, with a big comfortable bed, and a large bath-tub in the bathroom. Unfortunately it didn't look like the sheets had been changed from the previous customer as they were all crumpled up. Also, the floor was quite gritty, and didn't appear to be mopped once over the 6 nights we stayed there. I think they only really changed the towels (not the bathmat though) and gave us a new toilet roll (and didn't even do that one of the days). We were able to get WI-FI in our room on the first floor, but other travellers on the 3rd floor said they couldn't pick up the signal.
The staff were neither rude nor overly friendly. The buffet breakfast was far better first thing in the morning (7am) than an hour later when everything is dwindling and is not replaced. Even clean glasses!
The pool was nice to look at, but absolutely filthy to swim in. The filter jets were never turned on.
It is located about a 20 minutes walk out of town, which is really not too far, but is hard to do in the heat of the day. There is a free shuttle, but it leaves pretty haphazardly. Technically there is schedule that the driver is meant to stick to, but I think he just comes and goes when he feels like it. One night when we wanted to come back from dinner in town, we came to the stop 15 minutes before it was meant to come, and waited until 20 minutes after it had meant to come. We ended up walking back to the hotel.
Overall it was Ok, but only if you can't find anything else.

This one is an oasis when you are half way through vietnam. Brand new hotel with large rooms. $25 a night will get you breakfast buffet, largee room, excellent ensuite, pool. The hotel is 10 min walk from centre of town, however the hotel runs a minibus non stop between vhoi an centre and the hotel, you wait no longer than 10 minutes at any time to get the minibus to and from town. Spend extra time here, as the town is the best for food and clothing in vietnam. The kids can swim while you relax. Best accom in vietnam for the price. A trip to beach will cost $2US through the hotel, and that includes your towels and cabana.

What started as two nights turned into four in Hoi An and the decision to stay on was made easier at Thanh Van 2. Although the location is not great they have a free shuttle to Thanh Van 1 which is regular and quick. The hotel manager Johnny was incredibly helpful, booking our tours, buses, transfers and anything else we needed. The room was huge and comfortable, with a cranking a/c which was welcomed after a sweltering day in the Vietnamese summer! The hotel food was just ok, but pool side breakfast was plentiful and the general comfort and charm of the place won us over instantly, as did the low price! I would highly recommend Thanh Van 2 to anyone coming to Hoi An. Don't be put off by the location...the pros far outweigh that one con.

The room was really nice, we had a deluxe room. Pool was yuck and staff are rude.
I was hoping to stay 4 nights, but only booked 2 nights, just in case...glad i did as the location is around 15mins from town. The few dollars you save on the room you spend on motorbike hire or taxi so it's not worth it.
Hotel and room also advertised WIFI in room, but that certainly is not the case...when we questioned reception they said that internet was down for all of Hue but all the computers in the reception area was working...when we questioned this, they just laughed....don't beleive a word they say!!!
The deluxe room was lovely, but i sneaked a peak into the standard rooms oneday when being cleaned and they looked very average to say the least.
breakfast was the worst we had in our 4 week trip in Vietnam and i was glad when we checked out.
If i was to go to Hoi An again, i'd stay at the Longlife Riverside...i checked out the rooms and spoke to some people staying there and they had great feedback on staff, location and b/fast
do your self a favour and avoid this hotel and shop around.
