Owner description: Reaching Out is a social enterprise, training and employing persons with disabilities. Our artisans create beautiful gifts of high quality from tea ware patterned after that used by the Imperial family in Hue to elegant table ware and bedspreads of colourful silks. Our silver jewellery is designed in-house by our staff and made right on the premises. Customers are invited to visit the workshop which is right behind the retail store to watch how their purchases have been made. Our staff are willing to answer your questions and of course can tell you the details of the processes by which your gifts are crafted. They will also proudly show you to our Tea House, where you can experience a cup of coffee or tea, served in the traditional Vietnamese manner by our speech and hearing impaired staff.

“A great initiative!”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

Fair wage for fair work! This is not only a great place to shop for quality momentos of your visit to Hoi An, but it is a great showcase of a commercial initiative that brings purpose and meaning to those that might not otherwise be able to work. The craftsman are very talented and staff equally engaging. Make the visit and you won't be disappointed!

“Beautiful and creative items”
Reviewed 7 August 2014 via mobile

This shop was such a surprise!

Between Hanoi and ha long bay our guide insisted we stop at a craft shop run by the disabled, and it had a forces/sweatshop feel where all art was copied and unoriginal.

Here was the polar opposite. People working here have a real pride, skill and creativity in their work. They can contribute to design ideas and learn a variety of skills. Also the two weavers with downes syndrome were given work which they could access and put under no pressure in regards to time, quality or design.

What they make is truly beautiful. Ceramics and silverware, silks and cottons. Things you actually want to buy, not tourist tat. The mark up compared to other shops is noticeable, but you feel confident that it is going to a great cause. My family and I normally buy charity shop presents for birthdays/Christmas to help give back to the community, so this was perfect for that. The sales people re very friendly, passionate people with wonderful English.

“Great shop for a great cause”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

The tea shop is quaint and lovely. The presentation of the tea and coffee is unique and the staff is very friendly. After enjoying my coffee and purchasing some to take home I went over to the Reaching Out craft shop and found some lovely pieces to buy. Some of the pieces are one of kind and beautiful! I recommend everyone to pop in and take a look at all the unique pieces made by these wonderful people!

“We love shopping here”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

We have been to Hoi An 3 times. On our first visit we found Reaching Out and just had to buy some of the jewellery. Second time we bought a bedspread and jewellery and the third time we bought a full dinner set. The packaging was amazing - no breaks at all from Vietnam to Australia. Then to continue on our buying we ordered more of the crockery and again the service was wonderful. We cant say enough about this place - amazing artisans, amazing staff and wonderful service.

“This is my sort of shop!!”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

Wow I loved this shop!! A haven away from all the hustle and bustle of the streets of Hoi An. We visited twice and bought most of our holiday gifts here. The choice is fantastic and the quality is amazing. We first visited on a Sunday when the workshop was closed so returned today and were recognised by a charming young man who works there. He gave us a tour of the workshops and it was wonderful to see such skilful people at work. If you want to buy quality gifts and support a good cause then you MUST visit 'Reaching Out'. And if you really do want to find a haven of peace and tranquility then also visit the 'Reaching Out Tea House'. Wonderful!!
