“Very Mixed Feelings”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2013

When you drive up to the hotel it looks beautiful nestled in the rice patties. We visited this hotel in early feb and the rice fields were a sea of green. Our room was very nice but next to the pool and kitchen. Bathroom was well done except if you wanted to take a shower or go to the toilet without the people in the next building looking at you. The tiles in the shower are a death trap and the water doesn't drain away. I slipped and fell smashing a soap pump bottle and almost my hip. I told the lady at reception about the fall and all she was worried about was the super expensive soap pump bottle and the amount I had to pay for the breakage . I refused to pay as it was there fault the tiles are not correct floor tiles for a shower and putting something that breaks so easy in a shower is silly. I stuck to my guns and after 3 phone calls to her manager and not once asking if I was ok the breakage was waved. Things like this can ruin your stay all over a $5 soap pump when a nice soap would have been much better.

Dear Travelers,

First and foremost, I would like to apologize for your experience after your accident here at Hoi An Chic. We absolutely do care about the health and safety of our visitors, and we do everything we can to ensure that incidents like these don't occur. Though we have since resolved any water drainage issues, we are terribly sorry that they were present during your stay with us. Furthermore, I agree that this matter should have been resolved in a different manner; it seems there may have been an issue in communication on part of our staff which led to your impression about their lack of understanding and concern in regards to your fall. Please do not let this be an indication of the manner in which our staff holds regard for our guests. We have since made improvements to our approach should incidents like these ever occur again, and will do our best to understand and care for our guests in times such as yours Thank you for your insight on this issue, and we promise to remember this in order to help our travelers in a positive way when an accident does happen. We hope to have another chance to give you the same level of service as many other travelers have experienced here at Hoi An Chic. Please allow us to make it up to you on your next visit to Hoi An, and we promise to make your time a much more enjoyable one! Many thanks and apologies to you again, and best of luck to you on your future travels.

Sincerely,

Pham Vu Dzung- Owner

A fantastic hotel with great staff. Large clean modern rooms with indoor and outdoor shower, surrounded to picturesque rice fields and gardens, & away from the Main Street so very quiet. Free bikes to go exploring the nice town of Hoi An or to visit the nearby excellent beaches, and a free shuttle service in old Us army jeeps to/from town when you don't want to cycle. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The best hotel (out of the 7 we stayed in) during our 3 weeks in Vietnam. Highly recommended.

Sat on our veranda after a lovely feed of fresh spring rolls, rice pancake and pork skewers served to us. Have read recent reviews and am quite surprised at the mixed comments. Have found the food of very good quality which is why we stayed here for dinner tonight rather than going into town. The room (no.399 opposite the restaurant) is comfortable, cool and nicely decorated. True there is no actual door to the loo but there is a slider from the room to the bathroom so adequately private. Have not noticed anyone peering over the fence which one commentor said. And yes, the staff are attentive but to our mind they are genuinely happy to please and interact. Some of the breakfast foods may have been there a bit too long but the staff will sort if brought to their attention. Cheese is served in plastic (like a Kraft cheese slice) but have yet to find any quality cheese here anyway. I do agree though that the pool needs more shading as it is pretty much unusable during the heat of the day and they close it at 8pm when it would be a nice time to use it.

So whilst I agree with some of the negatives I would not let them put me off coming here.

Dear Traveler,

Here at Hoi An Chic we do our best to offer our guests a high quality dining experience as a convenient alternative to traveling out into Hoi An to dine. We put the same care into our menu and restaurant as we do throughout the rest of the hotel, and we are constantly looking for ways to improve it and all aspects of Hoi An Chic. We appreciate your kind praise as well as your honest insight about our retreat, and we hope you will be even more pleased with your experience here on your next visit. Thank for choosing us on your stay, and best of luck on all of your future traveling adventures!

We stayed at Hoi An Chic for four nights at the beginning of May 2013.
The rooms were spotlessly clean, spacious and very well decorated.
The staff could not be more friendly or helpful.
We only had breakfast in the restaurant, but there was a great selection that was constantly being replenished.
A great location, just away from the busy town centre but only a 10 min cycle ride to the beach or the town.
I would not hesitate to recommend an would stay there again if I was to go to Hoi An.

We had stayed within walking distance to the old town for four days before going to Hoi An Chic Hotel, after all the buzz on various web sites about the hotel we were expecting a lot. The place where we had stayed at had been great and we had little to complain about it, in fact would recommend it. (Vin Hung Emerald Resort; excellent location)
At Hoi An Chic Hotel We were impressed by the size of the rooms and the outdoor shower/bath. Our shower was very slow to drain and could have done with the drain being cleaned out.The grounds are very nice but the pool is compact and only two day beds offer minimal shade. So first in first served a good idea would be to add umbrellas to the other beds so people have a choice of shade or not. The room which was on the ground floor really needed block out curtains added to the front door and the door leading to the bathroom.
We chose to go to the beach instead of using the pool which turned out to be a great idea because at the time Vietnam was going through a heat wave and the sea breezes were what was needed.
The food at Chic was terrible I recommend catching a cab and going to Hoi An town and buying brekky at the central markets. Also eat all meals outside the hotel. My husband got sick and we are fairly certain it was the eggs they had tried to cook for him. So we stayed at the hotel for dinner (he didn't eat) that night so he could recover. The meal I was served which was a simple beef salad was awful. The beef was tough and it had mayonnaise dribbled all over it! (I was expecting a simple asian dressing) There was very little else to choose from. So saying that the view and the seating arrangements for dining are great.
Taxis are cheaper than the jeep. Staff are friendly and more than happy to help. Personally we don't think we would stay there again but it may suit others. We found the Vin Hung Emerald suited us better.

Dear Traveler,

First and foremost, I'd like to thank you for giving us the chance to accommodate you during your stay in Hoi An. Our retreat is still young, and though we are quickly refining and perfecting many aspects of the stay at Hoi An Chic, we realize that from time to time we may fall short of some visitors' expectations. The Vinh Hung Emerald is a quality establishment, and it seems that it's location and some other aspects had met your specific needs more adequately, especially if staying in extreme close proximity to Old Town was an important criteria during your stay. Furthermore, I'd like to personally apologize that you found that the pool area and menu did not quite make the grade in regards to your preferences and tastes. Though it may be of no condolence to you in regards to your particular views about the menu, I can only remind our travelers that cuisine is a very subjective element of one's perceived quality, and is sometimes difficult to meet each guests' specific tastes. Nevertheless, we always seek to improve our services here at Hoi An Chic, and we are in relentless pursuit to live up to and exceed the "buzz" on review sites. We have since made many improvements to our dining experience, and I hope that you will allow us a second chance to change your mind on your next stay in Hoi An. Until then, best wishes and best of luck on your future travels.

Best regards,

Pham Vu Dzung

Hoi An Chic was the best overall hotel experience we had in Vietnam - they offered a very good service together with a lovely room, decorated with taste. I loved having a bath or shower outside - facing a mini banana leaves garden!
They really provide for what is important - refill water (this is a nice touch in Vietnam where complimentary water can be tiny), make the bed and tidy towels every time we leave the room.
The garden and pool are just lovely - so relaxing.
We even managed to have a routine over the three days we stayed thanks to the shuttle jeep - we would go in town early- have lunch- come back for a few hours rest and swimming and go back into town later for dinner.
Bikes would give even more flexibility but we were not brave enough to go to town with them - we tried them for the beach and they worked perfectly well!
Breakfast is really nice - everything is fresh - they offer a very nice breakfast soup (that varied every day) and their fruit are perfectly ripe and tasty. I personally haven't bothered with bread too much in Vietnam as I didn't find it very tasty but their pastries were very nice too!
All in all, a good range of products!
We ordered food once from the restaurant and it was really tasty although quite small.
The reception ladies were just so lovely - really behaving like we'd known them all their life but in a fairly natural way - they really would make me laugh! They even got up for us at 5.30am to say bye!
I'd just have one comment - it was really nice to have a jeep to town but this was a bit polluting for an eco-friendly hotel.
Maybe an electric car would be more appropriate ;) - in their defense, they do offer the bike alternative so can't really complain!
Their mango juice from the bar is the best juice I ever tasted!
I would 100% go there again and have already recommended this hotel to most people!

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor (room 199) and it was a lovely room but maybe a bit too close to recepti...
