The Hoi An Chic was my favourite out of all of the hotels we stayed in in Vietnam. It was excellent value for money.
The rooms are cool and stylish with marble bathrooms. We had a huge amount of space in our standard room, even with the wonderfully comfortable super-king size bed in the middle of the room. Slightly more storage space would have been better, but this is a minor quibble and common in many of the hotels we stayed in.
I particularly loved having a second bathroom outdoors and used the shower outside more often than the one inside (just to be clear - you do have a choice of inside and outside showers in the room). Listening to the birds and frogs in the surrounding paddies whilst going through your ablutions was a rare experience.
The breakfast provided by the hotel was more than adequate although the selection was, understandably, slightly reduced from that in larger hotels - who wants to see that amount of food wastage really? There were Vietnamese and Western options available and there was enough choice to make selection require some thought.
When I first arrived, I was slightly concerned about how far we were from Hoi An town centre, but it is a really easy bicycle ride (good bikes + flat, well surfaced roads with relatively low traffic levels). It took us about 15 mins to cycle paced to avoid getting too hot! If you're really not up to the cycle then the hotel offers a shuttle service and a taxi will cost you £2 (60 000 VND) each way. Being a little out of town means that you are closer to the beach of course.
The staff at the hotel were all great too. We're not fans of the type of flunkeying you get at the bigger hotels, polite, efficient and impersonal and prefer the type of service we got at the Hoi An Chic where we felt as if the staff really cared and enjoyed talking to the guests.
I would agree with the review which suggested having slightly darker curtains for the room.
Having a swimming pool was a definite bonus.
