Owner description: Located on the banks of the poetic Thu Bon River, in central Quang Nam province, 30 kilometers south of Da Nang, Hoi An ancient town is an Eastern oriental classic captivation. With the strategic location on the banks of the great river, with one seaside border (East), it used to be one of the major trading centers in Southeast Asia during the 16th century due to the early western trader occupying period.

Hoi An is one of the main highlights of Vietnam. It is a very pleasant town to visit. To me, an additional advantage for visiting this town was the tailor (Valy Couture). I saved around US$1,000 with my new tailor made clothes done here, compared against what I would need to spend in Melbourne, Australia for the same items.

There are many good restaurants to choose from, to eat in this town (see my reviews of restaurants in Hoi An). There are also several interesting places to visit here, including a boat cruise on the river.

So much architecture and so many interesting buildings and sites.

Make sure you do the Old Town at night too - it is a visual delight with all the colourful laterns

Just a fascinating place to get lost in. Photogenic. Lots of shops and stalls, coffee house. So interesting , we didn't have long enough to do it justice.

The Hoi An Ancient Town is definitely worth a visit with its old buildings and all these colorful lights. While strolling through the alleys, it is really easy to imagine how a traditional Asian town could have looked like in the past. Most building are in a very good condition.
On the other hand it made me angry that one had to buy a ticket (for 120.000 VND) to see the nicest part of the Ancient Town and 5 of the 23 old buildings (from inside).
And what a surprise: the place is crowded by tourists...

We could have spent more than our 4 days in Hoi An. The town is bustling with great restaurants and shops-- including custom tailored shops!
