“Great little resort”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

I believe it is a great place to come with friends, just you and your spouse, or with the kids. There were lots of families there with kids (mostly from Aus), but my wife and I were there by ourselves and had a very nice time. Good place to go for 4 to 7 days, but I think it might get boring after longer, that is unless you just like to lay and veg, which for some IS the perfect vacation.

Pros: Super friendly staff, great rooms, great workout room (weights, treds, bike, and tennis courts), fantastic pools, good food that was moderately priced, pool side food/drink service

Cons: Small beach area. Most of the beach is barricaded by large sand bags. They don't look bad, but you can't walk the water line. Service at dinner was very slow- but the food was very good. Oh, it was under construction a bit. I heard some complaining about it, but I think they have to do it sometime, and I believe we were there during a low time.

We would go back and stay there again.

Room Tip: We liked being on the first floor, and close to the workout room. It was a garden view.

Stay was wonderful. The room was spacious and the bathroom was just as big--even had two showers! The view of the river was great off our patio and the beach was just across the street. Grounds were beautiful. Pool was lovely.

The breakfast was delicious. So much food to choose from. Pancakes, pastries, fruit, eggs, juices.

We debated staying outside the city or not and glad we did. The free shuttle was easy, so we got the best of both.

We had a wonderful three days at Hoi An Beach resort and didn't want to leave. We travelled from North to South of Vietnam for our honeymoon and this was one of the nicest places we stayed. They looked after us well and we were upgraded to the most incredible room I've ever seen! Both pools are nice, and we were able to use the facilities and shower after we had checked out as our bus wasn't until late.

I am a bit perplexed as to what to say about this resort. Overall, it is probably the nicest, most comfortable resort we have stayed in, yet there were some issues which colour my view of it. Well, here goes.
We flew up to Hoi An after spending a number of says in District 1 in Saigon, and were booked to stay 7 nights. The horror travelling day started with a corrupt Vinsun taxi driver who tried to charge 1 million 1 hundred thousand dong + for a 6klm trip to the airport (about $55 AUD) that we had paid about 170,000 from the airport a few days before (about $8.50 AUD). Then we had booked into the local domestic airline (VietJet Air - aka Coconut Airways) to fly up to Hoi An - BAD MOVE - it was like flying into chaos, and was the experience from hell that your worst nightmares are made of. When we arrived, the hotel driver was waiting for us, and we thought we could then relax and enjoy this leg of the trip. Wrong. We had asked for a deluxe river view room, quiet area and high floor - this was mostly provided except we had been put in the nosebleed room about5-7 minutes walk form anything, and the second last room furthest away from every thing. The noise coming from the screaming and yelling children in the hotel pool next door would have woken the dead. We were offered other rooms which were just not acceptable on viewing, and finally after about 40 minutes of changing around were shown to a beachside villa. By this time we were ready to just take anything as it had been a very stressful and exhausting day, and just wanted sit down and have a cold beer.
Breakfasts and the restaurant in general were very good - there was always a good selection of local and western foods to sample, and they actually made fresh fruit juices every morning (not the reconstituted stuff that you normally get), and the location overlooking the river was just beautiful. We had dinner in the restaurant one night, and they send out people to light lanterns and let them float along with the tide, while you are dining. The meal was pretty good for a resort restaurant (which we normally don't eat at when there are usually so many better local eating options nearby. The grounds are substantial and were always looking immaculate, there are 2 pools, a smaller infinity pool that is near the restaurant, and another larger one with a separate spa, and swim up pool bar further up the resort. There are two entrances and both are usually patrolled for security.
Now for the negatives - there were 3 nights of major disruption mainly caused by locals flying up from Saigon (I keep calling it that not HCMC, because even 40 years after the war has finished the south Vietnamese don't want to recognise the renaming of the city by the communist government in the Hanoi). There was a number of fly 2 day tour groups that arrived Thursday to Saturday that disrupted every one else's peace and enjoyment at the resort - they came in took over the place an then flew out again (similar to a horde of locusts). Examples of what the staff and other guests had to put up with - yelling and screaming from a bunch of drunk locals until 2-3am Thursday night/Friday morning; the pool trashed with beer bottles on the bottom of the pool, litter everywhere, and apparently women going to the toilet on the grass next to the pool area. Friday night another group having a major ruckus in the walkways in front of the rooms at around midnight, screaming and yelling at each other for about half an hour. Saturday night, a gala dinner for a banking concern from Saigon, where the volume of the speakers would have done the entertainment centre in Sydney proud. Ad to that bad karaoke until 11am at a decibel level that Led Zeppelin would have been proud of - and you get the idea of what everyone had to put up with. I felt sorry for all concerned, because at breakfast when these groups were there, it was like a school of sharks in a feeding frenzy. The poor staff were continuously having to clean piles of food that had been dropped on the ground, and their breakfast tables resembled areas that a bomb might have gone off in. Overall, extremely unpleasant for everyone else concerned, as they generally had three modes of conversation - loud, louder, and ear splitting. There was absolutely no regard for any other guest there, just themselves. Unfortunately, this was not a good initiation to their country in general. You hear all the time about the 'Ugly Aussie' in Bali - well here was a case in point of the 'Ugly locals".
Despite trials and tribulations, having had time to digest it all, we probably would go back there, as the resort itself, is beautiful and really well set up.

Room Tip: If your budget allows, then ask for a river view villa. Don't waste your money on a beachside on...

Great spot near the beach...check out the beach on sunday night and hang out with the locals, was a real highlight. Resort had huge rooms, great swimming pool which the kids loved. Breakfast was enjoyable. Can't say that the staff were the friendliest we encountered on our trip but took care of our needs as requested. Laundry at the resort was hugely expensive...don't bother. Can get laundry done at many places in the street adjacent. Also Cao Cao in the adjacent street was the best place close by to eat and food was amazing. The resort is a short can ride into Hoi An (less than $5 australian).

we had 3 rooms here for 7 nights spending a substantial amount of money. we were mildly concerned that the mini bar had not been replenished after our first use.

on the last day i paid the overall bill including the mini bar. on the last day as we were abouy to leave for the airport we were informed that they hadnt charged for the mini bar which we hadnt used since the first time.

we explained that the minibar hadnt been replenished on any day and so this was a double billing.

we insisted on seeing the manager who never came. the first ploy was to tell us that if we didnt pay the staff would have to. we still refused. the manager was contacted and he offered a 50% discount. i refused again and thought it ridiculous that a hotel manager should offer a discount in this way.

our bill was in excess of$6000. we had enjoyed our stay but a prolonged and stressful argument about $30 when they knew we were rushing to catch a flight evaporated all the goodwill which had been built up. not smart.

why did this happen - i dont know if its a scam - i cant believe it is but the managers odd offer and the fact that many days passed without replenishment made me suspicious

A slice of paradise in a lovely surroundings, we stayed 4 nights late June in an upstairs beachside villa the room was fantastic, big bathroom shower + bath. Huge bedroom with chairs and TV and lovely outside verandah looking over to the beach. Although the main road was outside our villa noise was minimal and the beach view also was minimal, however in saying this the room was still beautiful. I think the riverside villa's would be choice of rooms.

Pool and amenities lovely and serene surroundings to lay back and do nothing exactly what we did. Evening meals can be purchased at hotel and are of delectable quality however more expensive than dining offsite, but value of the dong to the aussie dollars still provides you will a high class meal for a minimal price in this country and you cant complain about that.

The only thing that this resort didnt deliver for me was the breakfast buffett had limited offerings and where the same each day, but in saying that I am a fussy buggar and this was my dilema whereas my friend was totally satified.

Overall this is a beautiful resort, fanatastic staff where nothing is a problem and we didnt want to leave and it is definetely on my destination list again in the near future.

Than You Hoi An Beach Resort for a memorable holiday retreat.

Room Tip: Probably Riverside rooms would have the nicer quieter views and quarters.
