They will try to sell you things in here but it's worth visiting to see the height and photos of the old floods that happened here.

We enjoyed our visit here (except at the end where they try to convince you to buy something). You take a short tour and learn about how they used to (and still do) live in these types of homes. It was packed with tourists when we visited and I think it would have been nicer to be able to not be rushed thru for the next group.

We saw several of the clan houses and the assembly halls during our visit to Hoi An. The Tan Ky house was our favorite. It is conveniently located across from the Morning Glory restaurant where we had lunch. I enjoyed the historic house and the Japanese influence. The explanation and photos around the house were helpful. If you only visit one house in Hoi An make it this one.

You are required to buy a ticket for the old town of Hoi An which gets you into 5 attractions. One of these was the Old House of Tan Ky. There are a number of old houses you can visit on the ticket but we only had time to visit this one. It is worth seeing as you get a guide who tells you about the history of the house (I think that it is the 6th and 7th generation who now live there) and you can see how they live. There is the inevitable table of goods for sale but I don't really object to this as maintaining these properties does require money and none of it was expensive.
The house is small so pick a time that is quiet to visit so that you can see it more easily. Early is probably best.

This is the only old house we visited in Hoi An.
The house is very nice. You are requested to take place with around 10 other people in the living room where you get an explanation of the history of the house and some of the decorations (less than 5 min). The room is nice, especially the pearl inset in the beams is beautiful.

Afterwards, you are taken into the courtyard where they try to sell you coins with your astrology sign. In the back of the house is a souvenir shop.

I think we spend around 15min inside the house. If you have a ticket left over, it's a nice visit but not a necessity when visiting Hoi An
