Im VIetnamese American and my husband is non Vietnamese, traveling w our 16 yo daughter.
Compare w many other 4 stars and even 5 stars hotel in Vietnam, I would return here. it is low rise (2 stories + ground floor) buildings, it belong to a small family here in Hoi An (according to staff) - they are not from Hanoi and not foreign-owned.We r here to suport the locals. We biked all over and saw many resorts, including just as nice Ancient House Riverside. I would even skip out on any resort on busy beach section and that included Victoria Hoi An. This is a true true retreat w a very tastefully design. I am not sure whether they ever claimed they are eco/green, but the architect have done a great job with beautiful tropical landscape, (incl LED Lites). The room decor is a pure simple line of wood and marble, w hardly any plastic- even the shower/shampoo is in glass bottle. Just a bit awkward w a tub right by the front door, but other than that. Like everywhere else in Vietnam, it does have a few uneccessary steps/stairs for some. We're active healthy 52+ yo couple so we did not have any issues. For some reason, they upgrade our family of 3 to 2 more levels up (thank you!) - so we get to stay at the villa. But we checked out the room that we would have been assigned, and it is a bit smaller but would have been more than sufficient with the same design and amenities.
Onto something special - i dont know my VN birds, but there are binoculars in the restaurant outside on the balcony. What a treat to see a whole lots of egrets at dusk and two other birds in the field
We used the bikes mostly to everywhere, and only used the shuttle one time. We stayed for 2 nites and wish we could stay for 2 weeks.
I would return!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Our resort is the ideal base for exploring the Hoi An area, and especially the lifestyles of the Hoi An people. You will discover the simpleness and truthfulness that is in the hearts of local residents. This small historic town remains firmly anchored in the past, and proudly preserves its antique wooden buildings and quaint streets fronting onto a peaceful river scene. Hoi An people possess a graceful smile. Such a smile will balance all of your emotions, thus more and more visitors love to stay for some more days to be truly alive in Hoi An's lifestyle. Some friends that we know have lived here in the local community for tens of years. History has been viewed as having a nourishing effect on people's spiritual lives; therefore, there is no doubt that 'staying for some more days' has become a nice saying we often hear from visitors. The reasons were bowls of Quang noodles and 'Cao Lau'. Wide 'non la'. Paddy fields. Lines of coconuts. White stork families. Or is it because of local youngsters' bright white teeth? Or the blackened ones of aged ladies and gentlemen who have devoted their lives to their fatherland? In the murmuring songs here and there, there is the creaking sound of the hammock and the rhythmic chanting of the paddy seeds. It can also be the magic of the storks every afternoon, fluttering in the air and then landing onto slender coconut leaves like perching pieces of transparent silk on the line between heaven and earth. ... more less
