The hotel claims to be 5 star but would be a 3 to 3.5 star at best.

Rooms smell old and musty, bathrooms are really dated and hotel seems disorganised.

The hotel overall does not justify the price nor the star rating.

If you are consdering booking a stay at the Palm Garden - don't. It is not worth the money, the staff are rude and basically ignore you, the hotel is empty (probably due to the recent reviews) and a 'sea view' means you see a tiny spec of ocean from one end of your balcony. Considering the hotel was dead empty during our recent 3 night stay, you would expect the large amount of staff to be welcoming and helpful but instead they sit at reception chatting to themselves, don't seem to have any information on anything and don't go out of their way to help with the simplest of requests. We even had to walk down to the road and hail a taxi a few times a day because they kept telling us to hire out the hotel mercedes with a private driver (I don't think so!) and wouldn't order us cabs. Nobody opened the doors to breakfast even though two staff were stationed at either side of the door, nobody assisted us dragging our huge suitcases up the stairs but about 4 door staff stood watching me. Seriously not worth it!

We were expecting so much more. Location is great, rooms are substandard. No hot water in our room. No heating, I could not sleep because it was too cold. No extra blankets in room either. No conditioner, cheap towels. In fairness to the hotel the breakfast buffet was the best we have had on this trip so were the capuccinos. It all looks good from the outside but is lacking more attention to the details (like hot water in the shower)

Room Tip: Get a room with a view and make sure they have hot water

My husband and I have been on a 3 month backpacking honeymoon and we decided to treat ourselves to a relaxing Christmas holiday at a 5 star resort. After reading reviews on PGBR, we were more than excited to arrive. Within 5 minutes of our arrival, we were immediately discouraged when reception presented our bill to us. The bill was about $300 more than what we thought we were paying. This was for a couple reasons: 5% service fee, 10% tax, 14% extra charge per night for "holiday bookings"' plus we had to pay $75 per person for a "compulsory Christmas gala dinner." this dinner was mentioned in the terms and conditions when we booked our room back in October. I don't know about you, but I usually don't read "terms and conditions" when booking a hotel room. We asked the sales manager at the hotel if there was any way we could get out of it and she rudely insisted that we could not. It was a sneaky trick that immediately put a damper on our stay. Especially since the gala was geared towards children and had a sub-par buffet dinner which didn't include alcohol- not something that I pictured doing for our first Christmas as husband and wife.
**lesson of the day: when booking your room here, there is a ++ after the quoted room rate. Ask the hotel what that includes. And read the terms and conditions when booking!!

Other cons: very hard beds, very high prices at restaurants on site (with another convenient service charge included), poor lighting in rooms, sea view rooms dont really have a sea view, rooms have no sound proof- so you can hear EVERYTHING around you, no conditioner in bathrooms, poor wifi signal, infrequent shuttles to town of hoi an (if you miss the shuttle, they offer a car- but you have to pay 105,000 VND)... I could keep going.

Unfortunately we didn't see the sun while We were here, so we didn't utilize the outdoor facilities (pool, beach, outdoor activities).

The one good thing about this resort is its staff (besides the sales manager). During our stay, every employee greeted us with a smile and wished us a merry Christmas. Very nice staff!

I normally dont give such terrible reviews, but after working so hard to save money for this trip and then to have it be such a terrible experience, I'd hate to see another young couple like us have to go through the same thing.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for sea view, because you don't get a sea view. Make sure you understand t...

Whilst the position and surrounds of this resort are fine with a lovely pool , the rooms leave a lot to be desired.
Cons
Bed too hard ,small thin towels , no conditioner only shampoo , poor lighting , no rugs on floor, stark atmosphere , lack of tv stations, no Dvd or music.
Pros
Lovely staff , nice restaurant but much better ones in town.
Lovely pool but we had bad weather so unable to use. This may have made a difference to our views.
The bar was nice but they needed to have a snack menu. Otherwise you had to sit in one of the formal restaurants.
I doubt I would return.

We recently stayed in the Palm Garden Beach Resort and Spa in Hoian for 3 nights whilst on tour with a group. The Resort itself is spectacular, right on China Beach. It has wonderful facilities with an enormous pool. There is a large outdoor restaurant (but covered roofed) area where you can order from a large selection of food on the menu.

There is also a free shuttle bus into Hoian several times through the day which we found extremely useful for our shopping.

Hoian is a 'mecca' for tailors! There are so many tailors - who are all so helpful and the prices are extremely cheap. I had some jackets made - also the lovely traditional aodai vietnames tunic. The clothes fitted perfectly.

The two tailors where I had clothes made were 50 Le Loi Silk (which is their address i.e. 50 Le Loi Street) and Trung Duc Couture at 37 Tran Hung Dao Street (Opposite Museum).

What I would suggest is that you go to the tailors on the first day you arrive and select your fabric and get measured. Then go back the next day for a further fitting (preferably in the morning just in case adjustments have to be made). Then wait in the town of Hoian until your garment is finished. A couple of people on our tour had their articles delivered to the hotel without waiting for the adjustments to be made, which was a mistake. (They didn't get them at the tailors I have mentioned though).

Hoian is such a pretty town, so allow yourself plenty of time. You need at least 3 days (full days) preferably more if you can spare the time.

If you miss a shuttle bus back to the hotel, you can catch a taxi which only takes about 10 minutes and is very very cheap.

We would definitely go back and stay at the Palm Garden Beach Resort and Spa.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are good.

My husband and I stayed at Palm Garden at the end of a 2 week Asian tour, and it was a lovely place to just relax by the beach or pool. The public areas - reception, lobby, restaurants were all very nicely decorated and welcoming. The rooms were however very standard, with terracotta tiled floors and no rugs! We were comfortable enough, but after other hotels we stayed at, this definitely did not feel like a 5-star hotel. It was clean (except for some sandy grit that was in my bed) and the service was for the most part fantastic. There were a couple of people in the main restaurant who did not give the best service, but for the most part the staff were all brilliant. The food in the restaurants was pretty expensive, almost Australian prices - a real shock, we didn't see this elsewhere in Asia. The bottles of water in the room were really small too, and the ones in the mini bar were quite expensive, which was a little disappointing.
The location was great, it was nice to stay by the beach but to be close to Hoi An to get those clothes and shoes made. The hotel provided a shuttle bus a few times a day to town - would have been great if they had one or two more trips scheduled though.
All in all it was a good stay, as long as you don't want any extras in your room - I wouldn't recommend for a romantic getaway, it almost felt more like accommodation for a family going down the south coast (in the rooms anyway). The free wifi in-room was good though!

Room Tip: The bungalows by the beach looked much nicer than the standard bedrooms
