There were a group of us travelling together, the pool area was lovely, however my room was old, mouldy and musty. I bought airfreshener to make it smell better. The hotel was in renovation mode, so the top floor was cordoned off and workmen drilled and made lots of noise all day. Too bad if you needed an afternoon rest. The breakfast was served on the first floor, and was nothing to rave over.

The also overcharged me on laundry and then didnt give me any change.

We travelled in a group of 15. This hotel has a pool and the rooms are nice. it's just outside the town, literally you only walk over the bridge (400/500 metres away) and you are in the town.
The breakfast was very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. The swimming pool is clean and refreshing.

We stayed at Van Loi in October 2009 as part of a family tour group. We were actually in this hotel when Typhoon Ketsana hit. We were flooded in for 4 days, but the staff and service were out of this world! The kitchen on the top floor was damaged, so everything was moved downstairs. Even without power, food was cooked to perfection and the kids were kept entertained. The staff even continued changing our sheets while we were flooded in, even though there was no water or power! Yes, this hotel is over the bridge from the town, but we preferred it that way. Much quieter at night and walking over the bridge at night is beautiful and the local Vietnamese friends we made on this side of the river will remain in our hearts for ever.

So, it's not in the town. That's a lie. It's across a bridge. It's not far, but it can be a bit intimidating at night. The hotel is nice. Breakfast is also quite good. Here's the problem: They are out to make a buck. They did my laundry and miscalculated my items. They doubled the count! Too add insult to injury, it was three times the cost that it would have been in town. They refused to prove their item count. At the end of the day, they have your passport, so you are bullied into paying them. It's extortion.
They also overcharge for tours, so book those in town. Just be prepared to walk across the bridge again.

It is located in an inconveient neighbourhood. No car stopping outside the hotel and it is necessary to take 10-15 minutes walk from the parking lot across the bridge. The brakfast on the top floor offers nice view and reasonable choice but semi-outdoor with no air conditioning. The pool is relatively large but insufficient lightling at night. The roo is very basic though there is a small balcony. Very thin wall and door. Free Wi-fi but very slow and weak signal.

I traveled to the Van Loi as part of a tour so we did not book it on our own. There were 30 of us and it was our favorite hotel and city on our tour of Vietnam. I found it to be a very nice hotel with nice rooms and pretty pool views. It's a bit further from all the action, but easy walking distance, just over a bridge. Plus, it was nice to be off the main streets and not have as much noise. There is a business center as well and breakfast was pretty good.

If you need laundry, bike rental, or anything else, the street between the bridge and the hotel offers it all. People were very friendly. We used the opportunity to get all of our laundry done mid-tour as well.

The giant happy Buddha in the lobby was a nice touch!

We found this hotel on short notice after our plans were mucked about by Jetstar Pacific, but what a find! The hotel is located a short walk over the bridge from Hoi An's Ancient Town on Can Nam Island. It is extremely reasonably priced (about $50 for a couple in a king size bed, about $70 for 3 adults - and with a son who is 6'4" tall, the extra bed is a proper bed, not a roll away which was much appreciated). The room was large, even with all the beds it still had room for a sitting area, along with balcony overlooking the great pool area and views out over the island. (As a side issue - the pool is sheltered from the sun most of the day by the hotel itself, and when we were there was freezing!) The breakfast was very good with all that the big hotels have, including a person making your omelettes to order. The staff go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. When we were there, some damage had occurred to the bridge over to Can Nam Island so no cars were allowed to cross it. This meant having to walk from the bridge to the hotel on arrival which is about 400 metres. The hotel come to collect your bags and it's a great stroll. Overall, I believe this hotel is a great place to stay in Hoi An and have no problems recommending it highly .
