“Amazing hotel”
Reviewed 10 June 2009

I stayed there 5 nights with my partner. The room was at 50$ a night on the internet. The room is huge...around 35m² with a balcony, a sitting area with a couch and a writing desk, plus a large marble bathroom with shower and bath tub. The decoration was really classy. The breakfast was excellent, with a large selection of freshly cut fruit, cakes and breads, pancake, also dim sum and omelettes.
It's located at 1km from the beach (10 min by bicycle supplied free by the hotel) so you don't pay for the price of a hotel situated by the beach but you still have easy access to the beach. The Hoi An city is about 5km away, but there's a free shuttle service ran by the hotel. For laundry, go to Miss Lan, who has a shop in front of the hotel, next to Miss Van's shop. But be sure you fix the price before you leave. She also rents motorbikes and sells cool drinks at much lower prices than the hotel room's minibar. Our room faced a large and nice pea-shaped swimming pool. There's also a spa and a beauty salon in the hotel. However we did not try these, as we found cheaper alternatives down the road. The lobby area and the main building above it were being renovated when we stayed at the hotel. This did not bother us as our room was not in that building. There was only one PC available in the outdoor bar. A good choice anyway, the best hotel of our trip... the room was huge! What you see in the pictures is what you get.

My wife and I stayed here sept 2008. We were given a room above the kitchen/conference room. DO NOT STAY IN THESE ROOMS. The noise is terrible, starting at around 5 am.
Ask for and dont be put off for a room down the back end of the complex. Apart from that I would reccomend this hotel. Service meals transport etc all good. arranged car, driver and guide to Sham ruins and marble mountain. Do them early morning.
The laundry ladies over the road are exellent(either of them) and cheap
Hoi an is a beautiful place to relax, walk around, eat. We ate couple of time over the river, beautiful.
We are going to Hanoi and will be back there in sept/oct this year.

Hoi An Trails was the resort we were looking for. The rooms were clean and spacious. Satff were very helpful and friendly and most had a grasp of english. Breakfast was great with choice of western or vietnamese. Shuttle bus to town great although only ran until 9 pm. Only comment was that the pool was very warm - not very refreshing. Beware of washing service over the road from resort - grossly overpriced and caught us out!!!

Nothing spectacular here - but we enjoyed our stay, the room was large, clean and in the main building. There were not many guests. The location is so-so: 10 minutes to downtown, 5 to the beach. Fairly expensive drinking and dining. Great pool and we really enjoyed the barman at the pool!

I spent 3 weeks at HoiAn Trails. I would suggest to other people who are diabetic and do not like fish that this is not the ideal place to stay. The menu was repetitive and the group that I met were all unfortunate to have food poisoning. I had to have a doctor and did try and get his fee from management. to no avail.
The staff were nice, especially two waitresses that did their best to help me when I felt so ill. The weather over the three weeks was wet, and as there is not a lot to do at the hotel this meant that sitting by the pool was not an option.
I had been looking forward to this holiday for almost a year, it was such a disappointment.

We arrived on Xmas eve. Perhaps that was the first problem. There was a "compulsory" dinner that we were invited to at US$30/person. I'm not sure why they put this on, because the menu was full of mostly western dishes. We're in Hoi An, we want to try Hoi An dishes.

Anyway, after a fair bit of "discussion" with the front desk, we were allowed to skip the "compulsory" dinner because we weren't informed of the dinner when we booked initially.

The rooms are spacious and well appointed. We had a japanese style room on the ground floor. The locks to the external blinds being quite flimsy, especially since I was on the ground floor. If are you happy to stay at the resort for the majority of your stay in Hoi An, the rooms would make you feel very comfortable.

Unfortunately, we stayed during a period of rain, rain and more rain. This meant we didn't use any of the resort facilities. It also made it more difficult for us to get bikes from the hotel to ride to town. We were reliant on either taxis or the hotel shuttle.

The shuttle service does not run every hour. There are periods where it is hourly, but it does fall back to a bi-hourly service. You can ring for the shuttle to pick you up for US$1/person, but if you fit in a taxi, its cheaper just to do that (US$2).

We asked the Hotel to book the Red Bridge cooking school. This is a must for anyone interested in food. They told us that it would be US$20/person, but after learning that tourists had to pay the school directly and that the price was only US$18/person, the hotel informed us that it was a "christmas discount of US$2/person". In other words, they lied about adding the US$2/person surcharge. I'd rather them be up front about it because I would have paid it to have them organise it given I don't speak Vietnamese! I dislike being lied to.

We then asked them for a quote for a private car to My Son. They quoted US$40. We got a private car to My Son in town for US$20. I'm not sure what car it would be for US$40, but it better come with rockets!

We also went to Miss Lan across the hotel for laundry. Both Miss Lan and Miss Van charge US$1.5 per kilo of laundry rather than per article of clothing. As we walked out, the hotel reception said that they charge the same as the ladies across the road. That was lie number two. If they had managed to read their own prices, they would know that.

Miss Lan also organised for a private car to take us back to the airport for US$11. Although in town we got it for US$10, she was nice and the US$1 wasn't an issue. The same for the hotel was US$25. After all the other experiences regarding costings with the hotel, I didn't want to give them one cent more than the room charge!

In short, I would only recommend this hotel if you are going to go during the dry season, dont' mind the shuttlebus wait (or are willing to pay the US$2 for a taxi each time) and are aware that the hotel will try and make you pay through the nose for services.

This resort was a lovely place to spend a few days. Although a little out of town there is a free bus service to and from the town and the beach. The staff were really friendly and the room was large and comfortable with a small balcony and only a few steps to the lovely big pool (the pool bar is no longer operating). There weren't too many people around apart from the odd tour group and the spa was offering half price treatments which were good quality. The breakfast was very good and the restaurant has a second seated area across the road next to the river and serves the best spring rolls in SE Asia! Loved Hoi An and loved Trails.
