“if you must...think twice”
Reviewed 25 October 2009

Having stayed at two other Vietnamese hotels in the past week, I had expectations of this hotel combined with the official advertising (brochure) from this hotel that unfortunately did not not come up to scratch (false advertising) and at best could be described as below adequate. The room rate (cost) compared to other hotels across vietnam over a two week period was very high for little comfort in return.

Where do I start.. perhaps the biggest warning which I fail to understand is that whilst the resort is situated across the river from the city, there is no mention that you have to carry your luggage your self on arrival across the bridge to the resort as taxis cannot cross the bridge.

Housekeeping can be described as just adequate, service pathetic and unfortunately I wish I had of stayed elsewhere.

My travelling companions agree that it is time that the resortt underwent a makeover as it is tired and badly in need of some attention and management education. You cannot have a decent shower as the shower head positioning on the wall requires you to hold the shower nozzle with one hand and wash with the other. The night prior to departure I had no hot water and it took one hour to establish from management that they had fixed the fault 20 minutes after my reporting however it would be another two hours before I would have hot water.... not good considering a early departure was required.

Hoi An is a culturally enriched township, great tailors and makers of shoes and a town that needs exploring and I would encourage fellow travellers to visit Hoi An but stay somewhere other then this tired and lack lustre facility.

We stayed for a few nights and it was mediocre. The rooms were ok, breakfast ok etc etc. It is in a good location, right across the bridge to the town. On our last night a typhoon occurred and we had booked flights, these were cancelled and it was strongly suggested that we stayed. Our room flooded and so we moved into the hotel part, we woke the next morning and the whole reception area had also flooded overnight. The staff (who were so keen on having us stay the previous night) told us that they were closing the hotel and so we HAD to leave. The restaurant is terrible.

We booked by phone and when we got there they denied we had booked. The hotel was full with a big group. Was it our error ? Not sure, but they were also overbooked the next night.

They found us rooms in another hotal across the road and it all worked out OK, but they were very keen on getting the last few dollars out of us.

Bottom oine. Good location. Helpful, but I would be very careful to have a clear confirmation and be ready to haggle and argue.

The hotel is at a good location, we had a great view from our balcony. Rooms are goodsized, beds are great. Free fruit everyday, nice touch. The swimming pool is good, but the water is a bit warm and both of us had a little stomach problem after swimming, so maybe the two are connected.
Breakfast is nice, staff in the restaurant is very slow. Staff at the reception is nice and speaks good English.
We payed 50 US per night and that was a bit too much in the low season. 35 would have been more appropriate.

Very friendly and admirable service. At reception very good english language.
Rooms absolutely clean - every day. Nice welcome gift - bananas and coffee every day in the room.
View to garden and the river - calm and romantic.

We spent a few nights in Hoi An and decided to look in the Lonely Planet Vietnam guide for a nice hotel in the city. We decided on the Pho Hoi Riverside Resort because it was recommended in the book - a normally very reliable book, but this edition was terrible for hotel and restaurants.

Based on the site and pictures, we decided on the executive suite (a bungalow for ~$80/night - expensive for a hotel in Vietnam), it looked nice from the outside - with the riverside view, etc, but the room and service was really bad. First off, for a "suite", it was a tiny room with a tiny washroom. The beds weren't comfortable and when we asked for extra pillows, they gave us old, mismatched pillows in grubby pillowcases. The windows and doors didn't close tightly and there were a lot of bugs in the room. Also, in the bungalows, you actually share each one between two suites, with a frosted glass sliding double door the only thing separating you and your neighbor. Luckily it was dead when we were there (probably with good reason) so we didn't have anyone beside us, but with those sliding doors, you would clearly hear whatever the people in the other suite is doing or saying.

The bathroom was only superficially cleaned, in other words they replaced the towels, but not once during our stay did they clean the counter or floor.

To top it off, at $80/night, you would expect internet access from your room, but of course you would be wrong. There's wifi access, but only in the reception/bar area, where there's a few PC's you can use. A real pain as a traveler since you're often going to be checking the internet to plan your travels.

The only slightly redeeming assets of this place is the pool and the decent location/view. But that alone is not enough to warrant the cost. Avoid at all costs.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel and were pleased with both location and services, as well as the actual accomodation. We stayed in a villa room : these are rather large rooms, albeit a little dark, but that's really not an issue considering you spent most time in it when it's actually dark outside. Our room was tidy and clean, facing the swimming pool with a little "balcony". The service was professional and polite (free internet and pool table) and breakfast was pretty good (had much much worse in Vietnam). From the hotel you can easily walk into the old town. A good choice as far as we are concerned..
