San Ho Café and Restaurant, at 512 Hoi Ba Trung Street is the place where we definitely had the best meal of our Vietnam odyssey.
Largely unknown, or ignored by tourists, the restaurant is very popular with local Vietnamese, a sure sign of the quality of the food on offer.
On our first visit the restaurant was packed as some organization was hosting a company dinner. While we were ushered in to a quiet upstairs dining area, we were advised that service that evening might be slow. That kind of “warning” actually made us react very positively. A waiter took our order, advised us on which dishes to try, told us that we might be over-ordering and left us with our drinks.
The food took its time coming, though not as long as we had expected. What arrived was a revelation and we immediately decided that we had to eat there for the rest of our stay, instead of going into the old town for the typical tourist version of Vietnamese cuisine.
When the bill came we were in for another surprise: a four-course dinner for three people, that included sea food and drinks, cost a total of around $15!
The food, service and prices were just unbelievable!
