“Best staff ever!! Great rooms at even better prices!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2010

We had two nights here and wished we could have had longer. Sao, Yummi and the rest of the girls on Reception are just gorgeous – so happy, bubbly, friendly and helpful, they really couldn’t do enough for us. We had a double room for $35 a night, which was clean, spacious and well decorated – the cleaners even make a swan out of the towels and decorate the beds with rose petals for when you arrive. Wireless was of good strength, about 4 computers near reception available for use also. Air-con and satellite tv were also good. The shower-head is in a bit of a strange position which means that some water sprays on the floor, but it’s not really a big deal at all – would just recommend making sure you have the bath mat down so that you don’t slip. The free breakfast was good, omelettes made to order, along with a buffet. The pool is large and very clean. The only thing that could possibly fault it would be the location – it’s a 10 minute walk to the very centre of town, but it’s not at all arduous, and you can hire bikes from the hotel for approx. $1 a day – and you can actually ride around / cross the road in Hoi An without fearing for your life!! Will definitely come back to the Hai Au Hotel.

My friend and I travelled Vietnam in January and booked Hai Au in Hoi An for 3 nights the morning we left Danang. Feeling a bit apprehansiuve after some of the places we had stayed Hai Au was great! Not only was Hai Au clean and the rooms fairly spacious the staff were amaziongly friendly! They would go out of their way numerous times to help and assist travllers and always had a smaile on their face! Nothing was too much for them. The breakfasta in the morning were buffet and a great way to start the day in Hoi An before hiring a bike and riding arouynd town or to the beach. We would definately stay at Hai Au again when we visit Hoi an , Vietnam!

The hotel was nice for a budget hotel. Although slightly more than other hotels in the area with the same grading, i think the extra was worth it.

I checked out some of the other hotels in both the cheaper and slightly more expensive price range along the street and the smell of damp in the rooms i was offered was horrible. There is comission from the front desk on booking tours, illsutrated by the varying prices paid on the tour we booked through them. This is Vietnam though, and it's expected. The tour was good, so the "booking fee" is fair enough in my opinion.

The pool was being drained and possibly repaired during our stay, but should be back open soon. I think a previous review said it was in need of attention, so it has to be a positive they're giving it some! :-)

If you want to spend a little more and get yourself into a 4* hotel, the Glory hotel is the upgrade option (at about $50 for the cheapest room).

You can walk into town in about 10 minutes. A taxi here does cost about 20,000 or 30,000 to the bridge in the centre. Taxi's seem a little more honest than other places in Vietnam. Restaurant staff have no reason to inflate the price, so ask them how much it should be.

We also managed to walk from the drop of of our tourist bus to the hotel (no taxi!). Not all the busses stop at the same place though, so don't rely on it!

Feel i have to say the girls on reception were fantastic. We were having trouble booking tickets out of Hoi An and they

We arrived in Hoi An after a hellish 24 hour bus ride during the days leading up to the Tet festival, getting there a day earlier than anticipated. The staff was at the door to greet us by name, making us feel welcome . Within a few minutes we had forgotten about the previous 24 hours. The room was big, one of the biggest we`ve stayed in Vietnam, ,bright, airy and even had a small b,alcony . The bathroom was big and clean, plenty of hot water. Breakfast was included and was good enough to attract walk in clients. There`s a pool as well although the beach is a dollar cab ride away or an easy bike ride. It`s located an easy 5 minute walk from the Old Town, far enough so that noise was minimal. I must agree with the other reviewers, however that the best things are the staff and service. They were always willing to go the extra distance to be helpful with just about anything (tours, information, even stamps) always cheerful despite working what seemed to be gruelling schedule. We ended up staying there for 9 days. Thanks again to everyone on the staff for making our stay in Hoi An a memorable one. Minh and Yummy, I`ll try and keep on smiling.

I arrived at the Hai Au late in the morning after a long train journey from Hanoi (the taxi driver I requested from the hotel duly greeted me at Danang) and was greeted by probably the warmest reception that i have ever received from any hotel i have ever stayed. These people are clearly its selling point and I know a lot of corporate 5* hotels who could learn a lesson or two. They cannot do enough for you to ensure you re stay is as comfortable as possible and clearly enjoy their job. My room was $25 and was very clean, spacious, quiet and secure - not to mention showered with flower petals (no i had no previous connection with this hotel !). No its not the Dorchester and I think some reviews on this site seem to expect luxury for nothing but it is an excellent place to stay. It takes 10 mins to walk to the main part of town or you can hire a decent bike outside the hotel from a lovely lady outside for about 20p a day ! Thanks again Yummy (Conang), Mi and all the other girls at reception for being such thoroughly genuine, warm and efficient people Keep up the good work !

Decent rooms , nice and roomy, not a great view from the balcony in room 205. Desk staff are amazing, they somehow remember every guest's name, and the turnover is fairly quick we were only 2 nights. The staff arranged and had train tickets at the hotel for us when we checked out, cost double what it would have to purchase them myself ($8 instead of $4), but no hassle at all which made it nice. (the staff should probably disclose this to guests) Nice buffet breakfast, good location to local market.

Considering the cost, I rate this hotel as excellent. We were a small tour group (Intrepid) in Vietnam over the Christmas/New Year's holidays. We stayed at the Hai Au for a few days just prior to New Year's. First of all the staff was very friendly, always greeting us with smiles and engaging in pleasant conversation. Breakfast in the morning was good and filling. The rooms were very clean and the beds very comfortable. We always slept well. Locationwise, you would have to walk a few short blocks to get to the heart of the shopping district in Hoi An. Since Hoi An was so safe no problem walking back late at night to the hotel. Some interesting shops near the hotel as well. The lady just outside the hotel that rented bicycles and motorbikes also very pleasant. The rentals were very inexpensive and so much fun to cycle all over Hoi An. We bicycled to the beach as well. I hope to come back to Vietnam sometime soon, and to Hoi An in particular. I will stay at the Hai Au again, and for a longer time. Like I said it felt like home.
