Our trip continued from Hanoi to the picturesque city (village) of Hoi An. We selected to stay at Betel Gardens because of the incredible reviews we had read on Trip Advisor. (A side note, as we stood at the train station in Hue some fellow travelers spoke about their positive stay at Betel Gardens as well.) We arrived in Danang and were greeted by the driver to take us on the short drive south to the homestay. The drive was nice the scenery was inviting.
Upon our arrival to the property we were surprisingly greeted by a very extensive road construction project. It made getting to the property a little difficult and we did have to deal with it throughout our entire stay. To say it was a little inconvenient would be spot on, especially on bikes. (It would have been nice to be given a courtesy notice from the property.)
Upon entering the property it is like a little Shangri-La. The gardens are beautiful and the staff was prompt in greeting us. After a short orientation of the homestay we were directed to our room. It was near the pool and had a little porch area for sitting. The room was nice size, it has a safe, an in room fridge, desk and the bathroom was off the main area and up a few steps. The one area of improvement for this stay to be rated higher would be the shower area. It is in definite need of an upgrade and we had to ask Hong (which by the way is an AWESOME customer service person he was great throughout our entire stay) to tend to it which he did straightaway. There is a nice pool area and the dining area was more than sufficient. As stated in the various reviews the homestay does offer a dinner for all the guests, which we got to be a part of, and it was really nice and very fun. Talking and drinking and eating with others and hearing about their travels was a great experience The breakfast was very good and it is order off the menu. There were motorbikes and bikes to use which made it easy to go into town or to the nearby beaches.
I would have to say for those reading this review that it is a little off the beaten path from the center of the city. If you are okay with trekking in on a bike/motorbike then you will be fine. I feel it is necessary to mention it.
The Betel Gardens is a very nice property and we enjoyed our stay.
