“Hoi An was nice, but.......”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

Our trip continued from Hanoi to the picturesque city (village) of Hoi An. We selected to stay at Betel Gardens because of the incredible reviews we had read on Trip Advisor. (A side note, as we stood at the train station in Hue some fellow travelers spoke about their positive stay at Betel Gardens as well.) We arrived in Danang and were greeted by the driver to take us on the short drive south to the homestay. The drive was nice the scenery was inviting.

Upon our arrival to the property we were surprisingly greeted by a very extensive road construction project. It made getting to the property a little difficult and we did have to deal with it throughout our entire stay. To say it was a little inconvenient would be spot on, especially on bikes. (It would have been nice to be given a courtesy notice from the property.)

Upon entering the property it is like a little Shangri-La. The gardens are beautiful and the staff was prompt in greeting us. After a short orientation of the homestay we were directed to our room. It was near the pool and had a little porch area for sitting. The room was nice size, it has a safe, an in room fridge, desk and the bathroom was off the main area and up a few steps. The one area of improvement for this stay to be rated higher would be the shower area. It is in definite need of an upgrade and we had to ask Hong (which by the way is an AWESOME customer service person he was great throughout our entire stay) to tend to it which he did straightaway. There is a nice pool area and the dining area was more than sufficient. As stated in the various reviews the homestay does offer a dinner for all the guests, which we got to be a part of, and it was really nice and very fun. Talking and drinking and eating with others and hearing about their travels was a great experience The breakfast was very good and it is order off the menu. There were motorbikes and bikes to use which made it easy to go into town or to the nearby beaches.

I would have to say for those reading this review that it is a little off the beaten path from the center of the city. If you are okay with trekking in on a bike/motorbike then you will be fine. I feel it is necessary to mention it.

The Betel Gardens is a very nice property and we enjoyed our stay.

Betel lived up to our expectations and more for our recent 7 night stay. The road out the front is currently getting some major work and we wondered what we had ourselves in for as we drove down the sandy road, then arriving into Betels grounds is like a little haven. Beautiful gardens, peaceful setting and our room for our family of 4 was beautiful and very large, very impressed. Tuan greeted us and was an absolute gem and so friendly with us all for our entire stay, all the other staff were also so friendly all of the time. We organised 2 tours with them whilst there and any taxis were no problem at all to organise. The breakfasts were great and the guest night also very nice and fun. Our 2 boys particularly liked the free use of bicycles and we rode everyday to the town or beach. Would highly recommend Betel and would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here from 22/6 to 26/6 2014, Ms Vang & Mr Dong are fantastic hosts. We arrived a day early and they were able to accommodate our family of 4. The rooms are very clean, spacious & the gardens make the place so tranquil. Our family of 4 loved being able to take a bike out every day(No Charge) as Hoi An is so easy to cycle around. At breakfast on our last day they even surprised me with a beautiful cake & flowers for my birthday a great place to stay.

we stayed at the Betel for 5 nights recently and wish we could have stayed longer. the rooms are large and comfortable, the bathroom very large and clean and the pool area is wonderful for relaxing with a cold drink after a hot day touring around the area. they provide free use of bicycles which is the best way to get around the town and to the beach and also held a wonderful dinner for all the guests while we were there. one little thing which stuck with us was , this must be the only hotel in the world where the minibar prices are cheaper than the prices on the street. to Mrs Vang, Duong and the rest of the staff, thanks for making our stay in Hoian a memorable one.

We stayed at the Betel Garden Homestay for 6 nights and had high expectations due to the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We made the most of the free bicycles provided, cycling into Hoi An alongside the river, to the beach, and - not to be missed - cycling through the padi fields to the herb gardens.

Hoi An is a truly beautiful city - lit up by night by hundreds of lanterns - and is a must to visit for anyone planning on a holiday in Vietnam.

We enjoyed two dinners hosted by Betel Garden where it was good to meet the other guests and pick up various tips on what to see and do.

A restaurant that we really liked in Hoi An was the Morning Glory - but the others we ate at were also very good. Two local dishes to highly recommend are the fried wantons and the Cao Lao.

Back to the Homestay. Everyone went out of their way to make us very welcome, especially Tom - ultra polite, efficient and extremely helpful. The villas are large and comfortable and set in tropical gardens. However I would agree with some previous reviews that they are a little worn and dated, especially the bathroom. The swimming pool is lovely although on the smallish side.

Breakfasts are very good and individually made to order with a variety of choices.

We arranged transport to and from the airport through Betel Gardens.

Overall a very enjoyable stay and good value for money.

Stayed three nights at The Betel Garden and after staying in Hoi An on four previous occasions and am really pleased we've discovered this little gem. It feels like you are in your own little oasis on the edge of town but within an easy bike ride to the old town so as you're not too far away from the action. The rooms are huge and immaculately clean with fresh fruit supplied daily, and everyday something a little different. The breakfasts were fantastic, and the dinner put on for the guests was such a lovely touch. No doubt we'll be back.

Betel is a beautiful little place on the edge of HoiAn with lovely gardens and pool to relax in. It is a bit of a walk to the centre of Town but with all the beautiful food they serve you need the walk. Rooms are large and the staff were very helpful. We did have a bit of trouble with the water pressure in our room but would stay there again. We had a nice private balcony to take in the peaceful atmosphere and enjoyed our stay.
