Review of Danang Golf Club

Owner description: Danang Golf Club is situated on the fledgling central coast of Vietnam amid 150 hectares of dunescape similar to what the world’s first golf courses were carved from. Its chief feature is a 7,160-yard, 18-hole, links-style layout that was designed in the true spirit of the game — blown-out bunkers, firm and fast fairways that bleed gently into wild seaside vegetation, rugged waste areas, swales and hollows — by Australian golf legend and former world No. 1 Greg Norman. It lies in close proximity to two of Vietnam’s most historic destinations — UNESCO World Heritage sites Hoi An and Hue — and offers breathtaking views of the Marble Mountains, East Sea and Cham Islands.

We played 18 holes and found the grounds immaculate. Beautiful, well maintained fairways, terrific greens. All the rough was trimmed down (maybe to keep the snakes away?) and it was near impossible to lose a ball. The short 16th sits right off the beach and putting with the surf breaking right behind you was fabulous. The caddies knew enough English to get the job done but not really enough to have a conversation. They were cute, pleasant and also very professional. There were two rest stops selling cold drinks and on a hot summer day they were a god send. The clubhouse was beautiful modern structure with lots of perpendicular lines and lots of glass. The restaurant looked nice too but we had a plane to catch so we weren't able to try the food.

The only minus was a dodgy parking brake on the golf cart. You really couldn't leave it on an incline without it rolling away after you got off.

All in all a very pleasant experience!

Wonderful Course, friendly caddies, top service...
Can't wait to play again...
The par 3, #16 is noteworthy. Look for the old coastal pillbox on the south side of the green

We were scheduled to play Danang twice on our trip but after our first visit, cancelled the second due to the condition of the greens. We weren't advised beforehand that the greens were to be heavily cored a fortnight prior to our arrival. Unfortunately this made putting nothing but a raffle and soured the overall experience. I know clubs need to renovate greens annually but golfers need to be made aware of when they have been done. You honestly couldn't hit a two foot putt with any confidence and anything over ten feet resembled a pinball machine.

As to the course itself, it is definitely a tougher layout than Montgomerie Links and is a track i would definitely have liked to play again as there is a bit of local knowledge to it. Clubhouse like most others is fantastic, food and beverage product and service good and caddies knowledgeable.

The link is in great shape despite the poor weather condition with no rain at all, all caddies are just awesome, and the club house is very nice, service is at the top of your expectation especially F&B outlets and reception staff. all are ready to get out of their way to help you out.
