This trip was made to come alive because of the excellent, enthusiastic and informative guide. I think if you wandered around on your own you might not benefit as much as we did. Not a huge museum but quite interesting and the shop is very good with an excellent selection of reasonably priced souvenirs.

The museum is quite small and has some interesting sculptures to check out, one to look into if you have an hour or so to kill and the detailed descriptions have an English translation. I found it very enjoyable and as others have said it's so good to see what has survived the destruction. Minimal entrance fee.

We won't repeat the background to this museum which you can read in a very good review by The_Pale_Ridah in March 2014. We will just reiterate this is an impressive collection of Cham artefacts, mainly rescued from nearby My Son in the 1920s-1930s. Hence too these were fortunately spared destruction by the bombing of the My Son site in the Vietnam War.

If you are planning to visit My Son from Da Nang or Hoi An, it would be good if your schedule allows you to visit this museum first. This will provide you with more historical and social background and help appreciate the remaining structures at My Son.

The museum itself is small and compact, quite well set out with different exhibition rooms covering different periods/areas. However, there could be better explanation (in English/French) although there are laminated information sheets in each room that are worth perusing.

The building itself is charming, and one wing towards the rear seems to be empty. Unfortunately, the maintenance is fairly atrocious and the flooring in some of the ground floor exhibition rooms is broken and frankly could be dangerous. The 40,000 VND (US$2) entry fee could well go towards maintenance and renovations. There are a few museum shops inside and near the exit some of which have very dubious and out of context items for sale.

The museum has a fairly useful website: www.chammuseum.vn

Well worth a visit and gratitude to those who had the foresight to place the relics in a museum, otherwise all would have been obliterated by the A.......s in their bombing of MySon Sanctuary from where most of the statues etc were taken.

Cool museum with quite a impressive number of items and totally worth the 40.000 dongs you pay for the entrance. Highly recommend!
