We did this independently, but it might be better to go as part of an organised trip, as our driver wasn't sure where he was going and by the time we arrived we had to really hoof it. The last cable car returns at 5pm and we managed to just get the last one up. The statue is amazing and set in a peaceful wooded area with other smaller statues and temples on the way. It is a very beautiful spiritual place, although the many steps make it virtually impossible for older or less able people to climb. There was a lot of building going on when we visited, but it didn't detract from the visit. Go see this - you won't regret it.
