“I love this hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2008

I spent three days staying at this hotel and I found it charming. I didn't read the other review on Trip Advisor until now, and I'm glad I didn't as it would have put me off staying there.

The hotel is very new, the rooms are clean, modern, and spacious. I enjoyed the food at the Mogambo restaurant, as I enjoy the food at Mogambo in Saigon. The pool is nice.

The night-life is a short cab ride away, and there is lots to do.

Net is: I can well recommend this hotel.

We travelled the 5 hours from Saigon into Phan thiet, rough trip and hard to get used to all the pollution quickly. The hotel was called The Palms Hotel... it looks great from their photo's on the net and to fair the rooms were clean.

Our first problem was that the driver could not find the hotel, he spent around half an hour stopping and asking for directions only to go down yet another wrong street. We eventually found it... down a rocky dirt track in amongst some run down houses.

Check in was fine, they did ask to keep the passports... a bit of a problem for us as we firstly didn't trust them. We got them back at checkout though.

First thing we noticed was that this wasn't the beachfront hotel that it's made out to be. It advertises a private beach with golf course sideage. Sure it backs onto the far corner of the golf course about as far from the clubhouse as you can get, and sure you can see the course from your room, and you can even see the beach on the other side of the course... No it's not beachfront... they will however drive you to the beach and you can use the hotels 10mX10m pad of concrete spatered randomly with a few chairs next to the beach, which isn't really a private beach at all, if you feel like geting some sun rays to catch.

The hotel's food is also sub standard... very greasy, poorly presented and poorly prepared. Not that they charge cheap prices either.

Next came the lack of hot water and it took many phone calls to non-english speaking staff to get someone to fix the issue... after 2 days, we thought that was a big much really.

The worst thing for us was going at new years time. There was just nothing for us to do. The golf course is a bit too far away to stroll over for a hit, there are no real restaurants in Phan Thiet that are of any repute and you do feel totally isolated from all things nice.

A far better option is to get in early and go to Mui Ne beach. Check into any of the resorts there and you'll be far happier. There's just a heck of a lot to do there, plenty of restaurants, and we found ourselves there quite a bit, and didn't mind forking out the $USD 8-110 for the 20min taxi ride, it kept our sanity at least.

Blue Ocean Resort seemed nice, as we had dinner in their restaurant new years eve, and used their facilities. Was cheap enough too at around $55-65 USD per night. If only they had a room free....

I hope nobody has to go through what we did, it wasn't a great time.
