“It's ok for a small town hotel”
Reviewed 23 February 2013

I stayed here one night for a business trip. Room was clean but not cosy, there was no carpet on the ground, people next room was very noisy and I could here them easily. My room was in the corner and no wireless internet signal in my room. I had to go to the tiny lobby. Even though it was not hot outside rooms were amazingly hot and I had to turn on air conditioner. I had one night without a problem. Room service was good. I asked for iron at 5 A.M. in the morning and they brought very quickly.

Cleanliness OK, spacious room (the furniture has some years but is well kept) and a really confortable big bed. But here the pros stop.

Cons:
It seemed to us the receptionists were there "for a mistake".
- They didn't help us to organize anything during our staying, because they didn't know anything about the possible activities one can do.
- We wanted to do a sunset cruise on the Zambesi, they didn't know where to phone, how to book, which cruise companies could offer the service (Note: The taxi drivers are really more efficient to organize and give a lot of tip and tricks)
- They said we could pay the hotel using the credit card, but the day of our departure something had happened to the credit card machine and the only effort the receptionist did to make it work was a look at it and her reply: "it doesn't work, go to withdraw the money and pay us in cash". Result: taxi paid by me to go to the cash machine and commissions on the withdraw, obviously paid by me.
- They discussed with the francisee of the website we used to book the hotel, about the price the franchisee had confirmed to us. They said the price was too low (... gosh, the price seemed too high to us, Livingstone is Very Expencive. At that price you have a luxury hotel room in South Africa.) They wanted to do photocopy of my printed emails with the franchisee! Their commercial relationship must not be a business of the customer.
- A receptionist should offer to call a taxi for the customer, in a place were taxis are the only safe way to move around. It's not in the case of our receptionists. We collected the mobile phone number of a taxi driver that we tried and considered reliable and we obliged the reception to call him for us.
- Last but not least, the restaurant of the hotel: the food was acceptable, but we ordered at 19:00 and our dinner arrived after 1 hour (there weren't other customers waiting for they orders before us). A group of about 15 people (staying at the hotel too) arrived just after us, ordered after 10 minutes. They were waiting their food we finished our dinner and their were really angry, arguing with the chef. In the kitchen, visible from the dining room, there were at least 3 persons doing something, but probably they didn't know exactely what they were doing!? We decided not to repeat the experience and the next evening we went to a real restaurant at the hotel on the other side of the street.

Fallsway Lodge is situated on the outskirts of Livingstone. The hotel is small, but rooms are clean, reasonably sized and neatly organized. There are good furnishings and aircon (much needed). Wifi had to be accessed outside the room, but functioned consistently. The shower head was worn, but there was good hot water. Being woken by very noisy guests at 2am was however unexpected on a week night and disappointing.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and provided good advice on various excursions. The front gardens are well kept and with shady trees and benches, although the back garden with pool is somewhat untidy. Breakfast choice was limited to two hot dishes (English breakfast or omelette), and no cereals or cold choices. The restaurant was also not functioning for other meals, but options include the Protea Hotel opposite, or the nearby shopping mall which offers burgers and pizza.
Blue cabs are readily hailed from outside the Lodge to town or the falls, and prices are cheap if you negotiate (find out the rates from reception). People in Livingstone are friendly and worth engaging in conversations about various aspects of life in the town. It is also safe to move around.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with wifi access.

Our group was there for abolut two weeks and had 15 of the 17 rooms and the rooms were really nice. The staff was great. The mini-mall across the street did not have a lot to offer, but the distance to the town of Livingstone, Zambia is a short taxi ride or you could walk it in about 22 minutes. We were there in October of 2011 and the weather was really hot and I personally loved it. The only one small item that they need to fix is to put some lighting in the rooms at night, as I had to go to the bathroom to get any light to write in my journal. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe or Livingston, Zambia.

We recently stayed at Fallsway Lodgein Livingstone whilst visiting Victoria Falls. The accommodation and restaurant were very good - clean and comfortable. Sally the wonderful receptionist was extremely helpful with advice and service. The restaurant was also very good both for breakfast and evening meals. Good value for money. Taxi fare to falls is $6USD

Hello,
Just back from a breathtaking holiday to livingstone, my lovely wife described the whole experience as a dream. Well! we are back to reality and the cold of UK.
I realy could not fault FALLSWAY LODGE in any way, The hotel is located on the main road not far from local shops and the VICTORIA FALLS, although on the main road it is suprisingly quiet as there isn't much traffic in livingstone and the fact that the hotel is some 100meters or so from the road.
On arrival we were greeted by some very friendly staff and were shown our rooms in under 5 mins, we were a group of 16 (sixteen) that included children from ages 5 to 21 and 6 (six) adults.
The rooms were a match for any 5 (five) star hotel, very clean with showers and tv and air conditioned, also a swiming pool for tempratures that were in their 30's. the restaurant had a good a la carte breakfast, we did not test it for other meals as we had luck and dinner in restaurants around town.
Hoping to visit livingstone again next year 2011 and will definitely stay at FALLSWAY LODGE and will recomend to all, whatever your age.
