“A great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

An excellent hotel located within a short walk of the Victoria Falls and across the bridge to Zimbabwe. Nicely decorated rooms although a little bit tired and in need of a refresh soon. Lovely grounds where Zebra and impala roam freely and nice restaurant and bar areas. Very nice breakfast and evening buffet of good quality and plentiful. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room with balcony overlooking the swimming pool area and it was very nice.

As many reviewers have noted, it is hard to imagine a better location for this hotel. It is within a short walk to the Victoria Falls, is situated on a beautiful wildlife preserve, and has a warm and welcoming feel. The rooms are a bit tired and worn, but a full scale renovation is underway. The grounds are well kept and clean, and the quality of the restaurants and food is surprisingly good. Buffets seem to be the norm at several hotels we visited in Livingstone and Lusaka, but this likely reflects a desire to please a wide variety of palettes and tastes. The buffet at Zambezi Sun was quite good, with an excellent overall variety.

Close to the Victoria falls, falls entry was included which was a surprise to us.
Activity desk staff was rather snotty and didn't seem to want to help us or want our business. She failed to mention that the angel falls tour that we booked included full breakfast on the island, so we had breakfast at the hotel first.
We tried to confirm our pickup with her or the concierge and neither would dial the cab's number, because they can only help me if i used their in-house transportation, even though i had already confirmed my own.

The Zambezi Sun is located right at Victoria Falls. You just show your room key at the back gate to be admitted to the park. Rooms are fine with concrete floors, good AC, flat screen, and good bathroom. WIFI is only available in public areas. Grounds are beautiful with sculptures of African animals scattered around. We saw impala and baboon but no Zebras. Service was very good. Bag dellivery and pick up were immediate. There are three dining options, poolside, a buffet and a harder to find sports bar. The buffet is somewhat expensive while the others are more reasonable. They are good enough that there is no need to slog 6 miles to town. The expensive, fancy Stanley is on the same grounds, with more options.

The hotel has a lovely public area with a beautiful pool and grounds. The room was nicely decorated but a bit small. The location was great as the falls were just a few steps away and hotel guests are admitted without charge. The hotel provides rain ponchos which we needed as the falls were very strong when we were there. The restaurants on the premises are not great. The concierge, Selena, was very helpful and arranged dinner for us at an Indian restaurant not far away and was able to get a reservation at the Royal Livingstone hotel for dinner another night. The Royal Livingstone, the sister hotel with a shuttle running back and forth, is right on the the river with a distant view of the falls. The sunset patio is a great place to enjoy the sunset. The dinner in the hotel was very good - highly recommend a visit to the Royal Livingstone during your stay at the falls.

This is a very pleasant hotel perfectly located for Victoria Falls. During daylight hours there is literally a back gate to The Falls - just show your room card to get out and in. The rooms are comfortable, well equipped with bright African styling. The staff are polite and helpful, although the pace of life may be a lttle slower than one is used to. The restaurant is good - most people used the buffet which also includes a very nice cooked to order stir fry counter. There is a nice poolside bar (with WiFi), usually with live music in the evenings. And don't be surprised when walking around the grounds to find Zebra...!!

Very nice rooms, very clean, very good service, excellent location walking distance from the falls. Very good breakfast buffet, overpriced dinner buffet but there is a reasonable restaurant walking distance.
