“Fantastic Place in a stunning location”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

We spent a night at the River Club as the first stop in our honeymoon and I have to say what a way to start! From the moment we were picked up at the airport by Gilbert we felt like it was going to be a fantastic experience. Gilbert was very welcoming and knowledgeable and we were lucky to even see some wildlife in our way to the river club. The owner, Peter, received us in the riverside and took us in a boat to a little island in the middle of the Zambezi river where we had a fantastic welcoming lunch and champagne, beauty in the details I have to say : ) We were awed by the whole experience, the treatment by the staff at the river club and of course the stunning beauty of the place where the lodge is located. Peter and Sue were super kind to us and upgraded us to the Mary Suite which was more than we could ever ask for. The suite or more appropriate, the villa, is beautifully decorated with its own pool and again fantastic views of the Zambezi river. The romantic dinner with the candlelight near the infinity pool was fantastic. What can I say, overall an amazing stay, with wonderful people and great service. We hope to be back soon and were sad to have only one night in this beautiful place.

Room Tip: If you can afford the Mary Suite go for it!!

Dear Joan B,
Thank you very much for your review on TA. I have passed on your praises to Gilbert and Sue both of whom asked to pass on their thanks for your kind words.
I am sorry that you missed your first night with us but am delighted that we managed to make your shortened stay so memorable. We are all looking forward to your return where we can organise more of what this incredible area has to offer.
Very best wishes

Unfortunately only had two nights here, but it really is top class. Great colonial feel and much better option than chain hotels. Everything organised perfectly by Peter Jones and his excellent staff. Great chef. If you want to get close to the edge of the Falls you must try visiting Livingstone Island for a dip in a plunge pool at the edge of the Falls and I promise it's a moment you will never forget. Our stay was just perfect - we cannot recommend "The River Club" highly enough! Mike and Denise from Wiltshire, England.

Dear Mike and Denise,
I am so glad that you both had a wonderful time with us and we all thank you very much indeed for your review on TA. It was a pleasure to have hosted you. I am grateful for your kind reference to Kaylinn whose work in the kitchen really is paying dividends - her food is outstanding.
I hope that all is well at home despite the terrible weather you are all having over there.
Best wishes from all at the lodge and we hope to see you again.

A perfect beginning to our Sarai adventure.

Almost everything about the River Club is exceptional. The location just above Victoria Falls, the food (in particular), the staff and our host were all superior. I wish that we had booked for more than two nights.

We later met others who stayed at the Victoria Falls Hotel, which we had also considered, and they were unanimous in there opinion that it was old and dated. Not the case at he River Club. It was beautiful.

Thanks Peter, it couldn't have been better!

Dear Sailabout,
Thank you for your kind write up on your recent stay. We all thoroughly enjoyed hosting you and spending time with you during your time with us. The new chef is definitely creating the most wonderful creations in the kitchen and I have shared your wonderful comments with her, for which she has asked me to pass on her thanks as well.
We wish that you had been able to spend longer as well so here's hoping that you will be able to get back to Zambia in the future and do just that!
Very best wishes and do stay in touch.
Peter and all at The River Club.

Dear Lulu921
I think we are going to have to make a CD capturing all the wonderful noises that surround this fantastic river we live on the shores of. I can actually hear the hippos in my sleep!
Thank you for your lovely review and I am delighted that sheets and pillows were worthy of a particular mention.
Looking forward to a return trip which I hope you will plan for.
Best wishes for 2014. It was a great start to it having you here.
Peter and everyone at the lodge.

We enjoyed the River Club so much we have recommended it to friends who have stayed there and had the same experience. Peter and his staff make you feel at home as soon as you step foot on the property. There is such a comfortable, easy atmosphere of fellowship with other travelers staying there. We stayed in the Livingston Suite. What a view of the Zambezi River when we awoke in the mornings. Don't miss this quite, peaceful retreat. Make sure you make arrangements to take the "Sunset Cruise" on the Zambezi! Great Fun!
Memphis Connection

Room Tip: This is a small resort. All rooms have view of River. We stayed in the Linvingston Suite.

Simply an amazing place to stay. The main dining/socializing area is a spectacular converted colonial era house, attention to detail is second to none. There are great secluded riverside rooms with uninterrupted views of the Zambezi river, offering incredible ambiance and setting. The rooms are air conditioned and luxuriously set out in a colonial open style. Staff are attentive and knowledgeable. In house activities are well run and not to be missed. We did an evening sunset cruise and saw a wide range of wildlife, the guide was well trained and knowledgeable on the area/animals/fauna and flora.
The food was three courses and five star with a varied menu, you can choose to dine alone or with other guests. Excellent pool facilities overlooking the river, as well as a croquet field and a tennis court.
If you are interested in the history of the area there is a lot to be absorbed through talking to the owner and in the lodge itself.
All in all, this is lodge is an experience that adds to any travel in the area, the setting is intimate without being to crowded and I particularly enjoyed the attention to detail.
Highly recommended.

The River Club is the only boutique hotel in the area and run by its owner. This former residence is a tranquil oasis on Zambia's mighty Zambezi River and is the perfect location for a visit to the renowned Victoria Falls - a World Heritage Site and one of 2 places in the world to have remained on the list the 7 Natural Wonders of the World (the other being the Grand Canyon). Located a mere 26kms/16 miles upstream from the Falls and 18kms/ 11miles from the historical town of Livingstone, The River Club forms a perfect end to a safari circuit in Southern or East Africa. The 11 private and spacious suites are individually set within magnificent trees on the edge of the Zambezi River, overlooking pods of hippo into the Zambezi National Park. A host of activities await young and old, on property as well as around the Victoria Falls. The lodge is set on a 50 acre secure property with manicured gardens, where one can completely relax away from all the noise of helicopters over hotels closer to the Falls. A magnificent rim flow swimming pool, pool loungers, private deck and hammocks complete the setting. An all-weather hard tennis court, a central croquet lawn and a 2km nature trail that can also be used as a running track for those who need to keep fitness levels topped up. Daily sunset cruises on the Zambezi River are offered at sunset. Activities in the area include a visit to the mighty Victoria Falls, game drives in the nearby Mosi-Oa-Tunga National Park, white water rafting, helicopter flights over the Falls, canoeing safaris, historical tours including places of Jewish interest and more. Dining under the stars is a highlight and a kosher kitchen ensures we are able to cater for those who require it. ... more   less
