“Great little museum”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

I visited in February 2014. The staff was very friendly and even provided me with my own private tour guide, free of charge. It was nice to have someone pointing out the highlights of each exhibit. I particularly enjoyed the natural history dioramas and the section on witchcraft. Definitely one of the better museums I've visited in Africa.

“Not to be missed”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

I dislike museums with a racist pricing policy on principal any where in the world but at least here they had the good grace to describe the ten fold extra cost as for 'non resident's' rather then Tourists non Zambians or as I have seen in Tanzania 'Europeans'
The racist theme was continued in the section of 'our village' 'their town' basically the point was that everything is great in a African Village Including -and I kid you not FGM and witchcraft until evil white people arrive with there devilish Christianity and sugar! (not to mention corrupting schools and hospitals) 'Their town' has a cardboard cut out of a white man in a hard hat exploiting poor deluded villagers who we are led to believe would have been better off staying where they were
The stuff about Livingston is Great with original letters his medicine box and hat
There is also a history of Zambia with fascinating clippings from news papers ( mainly to be fair about Kenneth Kanda, but despite him being out of power over a decade so are the present day newspapers)
There is also a section on natural history that is fairly intrestening so all in in all good value even if you pay the special 'White' Price !

“Excellent local museum.”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

This is a very interesting place. The exhibits cover local, national and historical aspects of Zambian life. The prehistory is important given that Zambia is part of the cradle of mankind. The account of David Livingstone - including the excellent display of his letters throws light on the colonial period. The coverage of the slave trade, the independence struggle and post-independence politics illuminates and explains more recent Zambian history. Thoroughly recommended!

“Original Dr Livingstone letters”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

This museum is located very close to the city centre. Unfortunatly it's forbidded to use a camera inside the museum. One part of the museum is political and shows a timeline of the history of Livingstone. Another part is a mix of paintings and real stuff, like pots and other tools. But what I liked the most was the part of Dr Livingstone, his whole life and the original letters that he wrote to different people. Some of them are hard to read, but you can see a few words here and there.
