We spent 3 days at Thorntree and enjoyed everything moment. First up the staff led Anant (please forgive my spelling) were all attentive and professional. The lodge is on a beautiful part of the river, with lots of hippos and crocs to watch while you are enjoying a delicious meal. We really enjoyed the activities on offer, helicopter flight, river cruise, canoeing, walk with lions and of course Victoria Falls. A special thanks to Alfred our guide who was full of information about the Falls and also great company.

After a 21 day Capetown to Victoria Falls tour, it was lovely to relax at Thorntree for 4 days before coming home. Everything about our stay was wonderful but I have to comment on how lovely, friendly and helpful all the staff were. We will be back!

Lovely scenic lodge, attentive staff, the chance to get charged by hippo on your way to bed... what more could you ask? A beautiful spot, right next to the lion encounter and elephant ride (we didn't do the ride), and very likely to meet elephant and giraffe within metres of the lodge.

We arrived for 3 nights stay at Thorntreeriverlodge in Zambia after a very hectic stay at Makutsisafarilodge near Hoedspruit. Sth Africa. The difference was palpable within a couple of hours, with the tension of the last week dissipating after our personal introduction from the very generousl manager. We soon discovered that the menu and bar service from Elvis and Michael were a pleasure as was the great service from the kitchen. The meals and all drinks were included in our package, and we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful menu( tailored to my adversity to seafood) were really appreciated. They were delicious. Our accommodation was spacious, clean, and right right on the banks if the Zambezi river, still in full flow after the rainy season. A sensational view from our bed, and a one way conversation after several house wines, with the hippos sublimating in the swift drag of the Zambezi across the waters was quite enlightening. My walk with the lions was a once in a lifetime experience, and the elephant ride was fantastic. So worth the price. Breathing the same air along the banks of the mighty Zambezi with the lions in tow, and aloft on the gentle giant elephants was unforgettable. This Thorntreeriverlodge is an undiscovered gem in Livingstone, much more ambient than its big sister The David Livingstone Hotel. If you visit in October, the river will be low, but you should see the elephants on their traditional path, crossing to and fro. We didn't care that the river was in full flow, we loved the fact that it lapped at our porch. Bliss.

Room Tip: All rooms on the river are fabulous

I chose this lodge over hotels in the area for personal service and am happy that I did. Anant and his staff go out of their way to make you feel at home from the time you arrive. Our chalet was excellent and the beds and fresh air guaranteed a god nights sleep. Bathroom is indoors but there is a wonderful outside shower with a view of the river. The patio is right on the water's edge and the hippos serenade you throughout the day.
Meals are well prepared by Monty and are well up to bush standard - 3 courses every night and a more than filling snack at lunchtime.
Elvis and Michael keep the drinks coming throughout the day and they and all the rest of the staff are friendly, well spoken and with smiles as wide as the Zambezi.
The trip to the Falls is clearly a must and well led by Alfred whose knowledge of the Falls and the area is excellent. Good luck with your book on trees Alfred! Go to the Falls between march and may when the river is full. You won't be disappointed. The experience is one you won't forget. And do the sunset cruise as well. Apart from unbelievable sunset photos you should get some great bird viewing as well as crocs and hippo.
All in all a great trip made by wonderful people

Room Tip: All chalets are waterside. Pick any one!
