“Beautiful shady garden, excellent food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2013

We stayed here for a weekend in May having enjoyed a tasty lunch in their very nice shady garden in April. The rooms are not exactly large by any means, but are furnished with thoughtful and practical details, including canopy (although a little grubby) mosquito net and plenty of open storage. The service is excellent and Lynne is respectful to her staff as well as friendly and efficient with her customers; this makes a nice relaxed atmosphere. This place is quite pricey but much nicer than a backpackers lodge and less than a hotel, so you get what you pay for. A 10 minute walk into town meant we found it quiet and peaceful, so we have booked to stay again and are looking forward to it.

We stayed at Zig Zag for one night in May 2013. And that was well and truly long enough. 130 USD for a room you could hardly move in , with ripped sheets and curtains that didn't close. I was being hopeful that breakfast would make up for the room but I was disappointed again. Unfortunately the fairly nice sounding breakfast menu for Zig Zag Cafe was certainly not on the menu for B&B guests.

On arrival I have to admit to be a bit sceptic when seeing the location. But once this first impression passed I could realize how well managed and well organized this place is. The service is very good and the manager Lynne is very attentive to everyone on the premises. She has a lot of respect to everyone including own personnel and this is really enjoyable. When she requires something from them I realized she's doing it so friendly that it makes everyone really at ease there. This is very important in my opinion as in many places in Africa there are still some managers treatibg tjere staff not correctly in front of the guests. This is a honest, friendly and very convenient place for your stay in Livingstone. One thing that might change is the closing time in the evening. We had a good chat with other guests and drinks but unfortunatly at 9.00pm they close the place... Sad but certainly not a drama!
In a nutshell great place and value for money with super friendly staff

We stayed at Zig Zag for about 9 days in December visiting our daughter who is working in Livingstone. If you want a plush hotel up by the Falls this isn't it BUT for a budget hotel just a 10 min walk into centre of Livingstone this is great value. The staff friendly, service good, a nice bar, good basic food especially breakfast, pretty gardens and swimming pool. The rooms are small but clean with good hot showers. Always lovely to come back and have a relaxing drink in the gardens after a day out. Lynn was very welcoming and I learnt a lot about life in Livingstone from our chats, and she even drove out to the airport to deliver a pair of glasses we had left in the room - now that is service! We may well be going back there.

We stayed at Zigzag for a few days after some time working in rural Zambia - it was a pleasure to stay in the clean and pleasant rooms, taking breakfast in its pretty gardens and finally having access to decent bathrooms and hot water!
But the main attraction of Zigzag was the helpfulness of the staff. Lynn, the owner, and her manager, Mercy, were an enormous resource in advice and in organising trips. Lynn's suggestions about travelling back up to Lusaka saved us a a great deal of money and time, with absolutely no benefit to herself. The staff were always around, unobtrusive rather than tiresome and the cafe provided us with decent basic food - the croc burger is to be recommended!

My husband and I stayed here between Christmas and New Years, in part at the recommendation of an acquaintance, in part because of previous Trip Advisor reviews. As other reviews indicate, rooms are clean; shower is great and water is hot; there is a.c. If you're a coffee lover, this is your place (because much of Zambia lives on Nescafe or Ricoffee) -- good Zambian beans and an espresso machine. Food is healthy, with veggie choices. Recommendations for activities are fabulous -- especially the safari walk. Staff is friendly and willing to please. Location is very good-- near enough to the Falls and to the town. There is a downside, however: room is small -- hard to swing a cat, and double bed is narrow. If you want the Royal Livingstone, this isn't it. But for a good balance of price and everything else, this is the place. We highly recommend and would go back again.

My family and me stayed here over the Christmas break and it's fair to say we all loved it! The restaurant serves excellent food at very reasonable prices, the staff are all extremely friendly and good at their job. It was noticeable when Linn (sorry if I've spelt it wrong!) the owner wasn't there that everything still ran like clockwork. Linn is a great hostess who did anything from helping to organize our various activities at the falls to simply sitting down and having a chat. As someone who is now past their backpacking days, the restaurant and bar were a lovely place to have a chat, eat some food, find a comfy chair and have a few beers, while still being able to get a good, quiet nights sleep. While the rooms are small, they are very well kept, have air con and are cosy. I really couldn't recommend this place highly enough to anyone who wants to stay somewhere that is full of personality and is frankly, a snip at $75 per room.
