I felt like royalty while i was staying in the Churchill. my laundry was brought back to the room every evening, my car was scrubbed every morning. the food was excellent. the staff was very helpful, and friendly. the WiFi was out for a couple of days, and I had work to do so the staff allowed me to use their computer to take care of my business. I really enjoyed the stay, great couple of weeks.

The Good:
My reservation was made long in advance for a 3 week period. The room was in order when i arrived, and I found it to be very clean. It was large, the water was hot and there was plenty of it. The linens were clean and the bed comfortable. The laundry service would return my clothes in usually 1 day, sometimes two. The staff was very helpful, attentive and accomodating for the duration of my stay. The meals were good (especially breakfast). This is a more traditional style hotel in form and function, which I enjoyed very much. My rental car had been washed by hand nearly everyday when I went to get in each morning!
The Bad:
The internet was hit-and-miss which was very frustrating for a business trip. Also, there were problems charging my credit card. We made multiple, unsuccessful attemps while I was there. The charge did finally go through, but it was literally six months after my stay!!! I will say that my companions that stayed here at the same time did not have the same experience. So bring your Visa and leave the American Express at home! :-)
Overall, a very good stay and I plan on staying there during my next trip to Bulawayo.

off and on i have stayed at this establishment for the last seven years whilst doing business in Zimbabwe, The staff and the management have always been excellent. Clean rooms polite, professional service i could only hope for these standards to be replicated in other establishments i visit in other parts of Africa.

Peter and his fantastic team give a real African experience combined with the deep history of the Churchill

Terrific one of my favourite establishments in Africa

Rubbish hotel. Turned up late with a reservation. Told by surley reception staff that they had not checked their e-mails recently and had no rooms. The hotel was as cold as the reception staff - it must have been close to freezing! At least the resturant staff were more accommodating and with 5 minutes to go before closing offerd us a table and seeing how cold I was offerd a freshly brewed pot of tea. I actually ate my rubber chicken - only hours old buffet food was available now - wearing my gloves!
Very fortunately we were able to find rooms at Garda Lodge just up the road - a much better choice. Avoid this hotel.

Room Tip: Do not stay here

In transit from Botswana to Harare we decided to overnite at this hotel as the others in the CBD were full. The reception staff were very hospitable and the area looked clean. Check in was ok except for the non working visa swipe machine.

The rooms were clean but outdated. Linen was lean but the bed was very uncomfortable. Woke up with severe backache. With the amount of money they charge $162 you would expect world class hotel services but alas you get an old television set (not flat screen) khaki towels (that used to be white), remote controls that don't work (you have to use your finger as the 'remote', shortage of power outlet sources (i had to switch off the TV to use my laptop. They still give you keys to open the doors, no swipe cards.

On the plus side there was free WiFi a rarity in Zimbabwe .

Having stayed in budget accommodation in Botswana and south Africa which charge around $50 I think this hotel,is a rip off, does not offer value for money. Think I will overnight in Francistown Botswana next time instead of Bulawayo .

On the 15th. January 2012 we had lunch at Churchill Hotel and the bread was stale. They then offered toasted. And we had ordered lamb chops which was served with vegies and chips. The chop were very hard we ended not eating them and the bill was. 48 US$ for 3 people. We were too glad that we did not use their accommodation.
