“Great location, hotel service ok, but the poolside service let it down”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2014

This hotel is In a great location, on the beach and just a 5 min walk into the centre of town for the (slightly dismal) selection of restaurants. Check in was efficient. The room was very pleasant, a little too minimal for my taste but everything is clean and modern. Separate bath and shower, and well appointed. Mini bar is free, but this was only restocked twice during the six nights we were there. On two occasions the housekeepers left us with no bath towels after cleaning the room. These were minor annoyances.

By far the worst thing at this hotel is the poolside service. There are not enough sun loungers, and not enough towels. We went down to the pool at 1pm one day, and we had to wait for an hour for a towel. The staff at the pool kept saying 'five minutes' but didn't seem to be doing anything to sort out the situation. In the end we had to go swimming and get out of the pool to drip dry in the sun. Luxury!! We were also let down by the service on the beach here. On one day we came down to the beach, there were no free loungers with cushions on. We had to stand next to the bare longer for twenty minutes before someone came along. I tried waving and catching attention of other staff up by the pool but no luck... I would say that the beach is far better service though, the pool is much more dominated by locals, and on the weekends it was much much busier. We went in March, the pool was too cold in the mornings, but by the afternoon was ok for a refreshing dip. The jacuzzi is lovely and warm though, the sea is an ok temperature for swimming.

The breakfast buffet was a good international spread. I did try the hotel restaurants as they were so much more expensive than the local options.

The service desk gave us directions to go to the coral bay resort along the coast for snorkelling. This is where the royal dive club is based, and I have written a separate review about this. From here we also drove over to wadi rum for the day.

I must concur with the bulk of the reviews: this is an excellent hotel:
- very quiet atmosphere, high standards in every way
- good location, walking distance of Aqaba center
- extremely friendly personnel. They really go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable
- breakfast and buffet dinner in AM/PM restaurant is not as plentiful as in some other (bigger) hotels, but the quality of the food is very high
- dead quiet rooms, you don't hear a single thing. No neighbors, not even running water. Must be the best isolated rooms we've ever been in
- very, very clean. Rooms are cleaned twice a day

One point of attention is the price/quality/quantity ratio of the food in the "The Walk" restaurant. We participated in the BBQ, and that consisted of (very high quality) salad bar, followed with a single plate of meat, with undercooked chicken, and totally overcooked fish. At 30 dinar/euro, this is not acceptable. At least one would expect a second plate, some kind of dessert, ...
Again, the buffet (we did the Asian, Italian and Mediterranean buffet) was excellent.

Final point: this might not be the best place for a vacation with (young) children. People tend to go here for quiet, which can be hard with young children playing in the pool area ;-)

Not related to the hotel: be very carefull with taxi drivers. The one that took us from the airport to the hotel, refused our money (I actually handed it over to him, and he returned it), and gave me his "business card", if ever we wanted to go to Petra/Wadi Rum, with NO obligation. As I did not trust the guy (and seen the state of his car), we decided not to call him. During a walk in Aqaba, the same guy approached us, pushing again. We said no. When leaving the hotel for the airport the last day, he actually was WAITING for us just outside the hotel, stopped our taxi, demanding money (which he refused in the first place). Resulting in a huge discussion, children crying in the taxi, ...
I totally agree that people should be payed for their services. That's why I insisted in paying him in the first place. I don't care for the 10 or 20 Dinar. I do care that, due to that single man, we will probably never return to Jordan again, and probably will not recommend the country to others.

It doesn't need to be that way: If you're looking for a reliable, nice, English speaking and very punctual driver for your trips to Wadi Rum & Petra: don't hesitate to contact Mohammaad Qabaha (touristdriver.aqaba@gmail.com) He's a charm, and will do his utmost best to make your trips enjoyable. Highly recommended !

Room Tip: All rooms have an excellent sea view. The higher the room, the better the view !

The hotel staff here were exceptionally attentive and we were provided with unusual drinks and fruit treats at every turn. The accommodations are lovely and the pools and beach are everything one could want. The spa services are some of the best I have used anywhere in the world. I purchased the luxurious manicure and pedicure and I have to say the pedicure in particular was outstanding. The next day I purchased the three hour arabian water treatment that included scrubs, mud and heat treatments, facials and scalp massage along with hot stone massage therapy. Well worth the money. My therapist was Daisy and she did an outstanding job. Although we did not have small children with us, the hotel seemed to be kid friendly.

The best hotel where I've ever been in all my life. Great kindness of all the staff, starting with the woman in red that, with warmth and style, are able to help in all our needs. The hotel structure is simple, luxurious but not excessive. Wonderful Space outside near pools and sea. Good organization for diving and snorkeling. The room is a marvel: in front of the sea and bathed in light and dark blue. Wonderful breakfast. At last, I recommend a dinner at the "Fish-in" restaurant, it is very expensive but perfect in quality, combination and presentation of the dishes. Try the lobster tartare with green apple and lime.
Near the center of the town.
Something negative? Carrier vessels at few hundred meters and the wifi doesn't work in te rooms

We spent 4 nights here and loved every moment. We arrived at 11.0pm and were
warmly greeted by reception. We arrived in our room on the 6th floor to soft music
and when we pulled back the curtains - wow what a wonderful view of four countries. We
just did not want to go to bed!
Whilst the hotel was undergoing some renovation, especially on the beach it did
not bother us. The constant change of fresh fruit in the room and free soft drink mini bar
was a great bonus. The staff are exceptionally helpful and it is a very easy walk into
town. How I wish we were still there!

The front desk reception was very friendly and welcoming. They even bring you a warm washcloth to refresh yourself. As soon as you walk in your room the view is breathtaking. You can see the Red Sea, Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. When you have the patio doors open you can hear the waves. The lounge chairs on the private beach were very comfortable. A nice touch was they brought little appetizers to try. The infinity pool was very nice as well. We rented a one hour tour on a glass bottom boat right from the dock. It was very nice to tour the bay and see the coral reef. We had a late lunch at the restaurant on the beach and it was very good. Also the breakfast buffet had a good selection. The only negative thing would be the lack of greenery. Palm trees would be nice.

Room Tip: I think all rooms would have a nice view.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014

We are a family of five with kids aged 7,5 and 5. We stayed in Kempinski Aqaba from Feb. 15th to 22nd, 2014. We had two de luxe rooms with a connecting door.
We were in the third floor. Overall experience in this hotel is almost perfect. There are so many good things in this hotel, that I want to express only the negative things in brief. First of all the service is not what you can expect from this 5* hotel.
The culture in the Arabic countries is so different that the hotel simply is suffering from it too. Almost every time we ordered from the room service something like ice, it took from 5 min. to 30 min. depending on the worker. Sometimes I had to call front desk in order to speed up the order. It was really annoying, because it should not be too hard to fulfill the order in couple of minutes. This was really strange, because the staff seemed to do their best to work hard. Another thing was the pieces of glass on the beach. Our kids wanted to play there, but I had to limit their
play well off the water, because of the broken glass. Again not so difficult to clean it up, but it was not done, even though they seemed to clean the beach every morning. The third thing was the most annoying thing that after cleaning our rooms the cleaning lady always put the key card to her pocket and we had to get a new one almost every day. All we heard that we are sorry, we will make sure it will not happen again...until the next morning!!! Also couple of times, the cleaning ladies forgot to bring new towels after they took the old ones and again I had to call to ask. Simple things, but not what you can expect from a luxury hotel.
Like I said, overall close to perfect with a lag of top service.
Dining very good, but pricey...especially wines!!!
Construction work on the neighboring plot to the right was ruining the beautiful panorama fronm the balcony. Also some repairs on the beach was not so nice.
However we left Aqaba Kempinski with a good feeling, we had a good holiday.
Tip - rented a car for two days ( Europecar, a Peugeot 206, JOD 36 per day ).
Went to Wadi Rum on the first day and Petra on the second, highly recommended!!!

Room Tip: Room in the center on upper floors should be good
