We booked the hotel in Nov 2012 to go there in Feb 2013, when we arrived the hotel was empty & being renovated & we had not been alerted. They provided alternative accommodation at a sister Hotel but I was very disappointed that we had not been contacted prior arrival.

My son and I spend 2 nights at the Golden Tulip this past week. We had a wonderful time. The rooms are very spacious with comfortable beds. There is cable tv with some English channels that we could sit down and enjoy after a really great shower; hot with super pressure. We snuggled into the robes provided and enjoyed some relaxation in the middle of our really busy Jordan tour with STI Jordan, which is the best way to see Jordan.
Also, Ibrahim at the front desk was able to make excellent recommendations on everything, from Red Sea Snorkels, to information about Wadi Rum, to information about Aqaba. His English is excellent and he is extremely professional and polite.
While Golden Tulip is downtown, there are shuttle buses from town to South Beach which is the tourist beach where you can sunbathe in a swimming suit. The local beach is crowded with covered women who would be offended by western swimwear, so we enjoyed a day at the beach snorkeling (wear swimming shoes as the coral is sharp!) as well as a day on a yacht snorkeling out farther and enjoying a delicious lunch. I highly recommend it! The snorkeling is great; clear water, colorful fish and many types of coral.
The food at the hotel was lovely; we had half board. It is a buffet at the restaurant overlooking the pool. There is a great mix of people at the hotel, it is not just westerners to you also gain some insight into the Jordanian and Palastinian cultures.
I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had a corner room which was really spacious.

The staff is helpful but depressed. The rooms are clean and big, but not where you want to hang out. Building qualit is poor. The food is fine except for the Nescafé at breakfast (who are all these people drinking Nescafé? Not to discriminate), but not the exceptional foreign dining adventure one hopes for (tourist buffet...whatever).

In short, it is a place to stay ...but if you have the means pass on this one.

Ive just stayed a week in the Golden Tulip ,
I think it has seen its best years and is appearing a bit dated now. Reception was good and check in was very efficent. I had a nice big room with a pleasant sea view. The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good , Nice eggs , honey. bread , hummus and cold and hot drinks..The swimming pool was very small and in some shade. The staff were very pleasant and the location excellent
The parrot was a pain...

We stayed in this hotel during a roundtrip in Jordan. We booked 4 star hotels and were very pleased until we arrived at this hotel. This hotel is no 4 star at all (maybe it was a long time ago ?).
Staff was friendly and no complains there, but the hotel is old - not maintained so you get very bad conditions : walls cracking, ac not working, dirty windows and walls, humidity problems, rust in bath and shower, dirty floors, ... .
On top of that we were the only western tourists, amongst a lot of local people with screaming children.
We escaped after 3 days and went to the Hilton Doubletree, which was ofcourse very good.
From the reception we then heard other guests had also left due to too much noise ... .

I would recommend to avoid this hotel. Rae'd a bit further is 'but' a 3 star hotel, but once checked Rae'd was clean, well-maintained etc.

Complaint sent to travel agent.

Room Tip: We had rooms on 3 floors and all were terrible :-(
