Best Western Hotel Nagoya
Ranked #35 of 176 Hotels / Ryokan in Nagoya
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We stayed here for three nights. The room was surprisingly big for Japan hotels, we had a twin room which had 2 large singles and a good amount of floor space. There was also an armchair and a coffee table, with an extra office type chair, nice to have a little seating area. We found the hotel easily enough once we had negotiated the subway station at Sakae- best to use exit 1. It is also possible to get the Centrair airport bus from Chubu, which drops and picks up at the nearby Tokuo hotel. However the bus doesn't run until 11.30 from airport so we took the train from the airport- difficult with large luggage. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the wifi is free. We didn't use the restaurant as we had other commitments, but there are several convenience stores nearby which have a huge variety of items including snacks and salads- these places are brilliant for travellers on a budget. Best Western was great value for money and I would return there.

We stayed here as a group of three. The room had a large bed and a cot set up; the bed was good, but the cot wasn't as nice (though still manageable). The room itself was a bit small but since we were only using it for sleeping that was fine. The room came with a kettle and free internet, as well as pajamas, slippers, and toiletries, which was expected but still really nice! Staff were also friendly, though only one at the front desk could speak English. In general, a decent and inexpensive hotel. The location was very central and a short walk from the subway station (Sakae). We came in to Nagoya by the bullet train, and with all our luggage we decided to take a taxi from Nagoya Station to this hotel: it was less than 2000yen, which was definitely very affordable. However, our room also overlooked the red light district, and late at night we could sometimes hear shouting and other noises (from the seventh floor!).

It is located a 5 minute+ walk from underground. Our room was spatious enough and had a view which is not that usual for this category of hotels. In my opinion a good no frills budget option, both room- and location-wise. Will absolutely consider for my next visit to Nagoya.

Room Tip: Room 609 has a view of streetcrossing.

This location is relatively easy to find, and very central to wherever you wish to go in Nagoya. We only stayed overnight for a tattoo convention (Nagoya Tattoo Circus, do not miss this if you are lucky enough to be in town that day, its an annual thing, very alternative, only go if you are heavy into the tattoo culture) and we wish we booked more nights in this hotel, as it was the best we stayed in Japan for the budget we had. Starbucks on the first floor is handy. Great English speaking staff also.

This hotel is well located around many restaurants and close to the Sakae subway station. There is a Starbucks coffee shop on the first floor, so that was a nice surprise. The staff is friendly and accomodating. The only problem is that the windows do not open to the outside so the air in the room is stale. However, the bed is confortable and the Internet access is fast and stable.

A 10 minute taxi ride from the train station but located in the middle of the lively Sakae area with subway and bus options close by. We were disconcerted that from street level anyone can walk in and access the guest room floors without having to pass through Reception which is located on the first floor. They do supposedly have security cameras operating, but bottom line anyone could have accessed our floor – legitimate guests or dangerous strangers. Booked a twin bed room to get that extra space which was worth it. Extras included a fridge, tea & coffee making facilities, a range of toiletries, slippers & dressing gowns. Good wi-fi. Such a joy to have a proper sized bathroom with all that space rather than the cramped modular versions normally on offer. We didn't have breakfast included in our package but right under the hotel is a Starbucks and immediately outside the hotel are many breakfast options. Hated that you couldn't open the window

We were there from 5 to 9 May 2014. Checkin was fast and efficient. Staff speaks English. Room was of reasonable size. Bath room was clean with full facility. Service was good.

Location was good. Take exit 12 from Sakae station and just walk straight. There is a Starbucks right at the ground floor of the hotel.

Downside was there was no safe available in the room.
