“Very good - why pay more?”
Reviewed 21 March 2010

We stayed for three nights at the Daiwa-Roynet in Nagoya, as a stopover from Tokyo to Osaka in January 2010. The hotel is classed as a three-star, although I'm sure these star ratings count for less these days than they used to. The hotel is a short walk away from Nagoya shinkansen station, just ask for directions at the (typically) friendly and helpful train station information point if you are unsure.

You will take the lift up to the first floor of the building to check-in - very helpful, friendly and smiling staff, some of these speak English but be daring and try your holiday Japanese. You will be rewarded with extra smiles.

The entire hotel is spotlessly clean, and is designed for the business traveller. Do not let this put you off though, the Daiwa-Roynet is perfect for a stopover and quick tour of Nagoya. All of the basic amenities are provided, with small (but not tiny) rooms, clean bathrooms, empty fridge for you to stock up with goodies purchased from the Lawson Station next door to the hotel. There are self-service laundry facilities which are cheap to use and an absolute god-send for the weary traveller in need of a clean up! There are some shops nearby to the hotel, but the castle and the major (and very swish) shopping areas are a 30-minute walk away.

If you happen to find yourself in need of a day or two to catch up with washing, shopping, decent local grub and simple and clean lodgings, stay at the Daiwa-Roynet.

This hotel is not cheap but if you want somewhere smart to stay then this is recommended. It is a couple of hundred metres from the JR station/subway exit (get the right one!). The hotel doorway is tucked in next to a cafe and reception is on the first floor. The rooms are smart and the place generally seems new and clean throughout. To be honest we did not spend much time in the hotel itself as Nagoya had so many attractions but it was a great place to return to. Friendly and helpful staff.

Clean and new hotel, business style with comfortable rooms. Don't expect a big room, but it is very well equipped. Even had a ion-air cleaner in the room. No comments on the comfort: simply clean and good.
Some rooms have no view! (just on a concrete wall)
Hotel is in walking distance from Nagoya JR station.
Breakfast is in the coffee shop downstairs.

  • Liked — clean place and easy location to continue travel
  • Disliked — cannot think of anything.
