“Great Tempura in an Authentic Japanese Family Run Restaurant”
Reviewed 6 July 2010

This is a fantastic family restaurant where they clearly take great pride in the quality and presentation of the food. The owner and chef has two lovely daughters who really helped create a lively and friendly atmosphere. We were there with our family of 5 and even met the neighbours (who are obviously regulars) who introduced us to Shocho.

We all savoured different selections of the set meal and it was lovely. It was served with some unusual seasonings that provided a point of difference. Reasonable prices, cooked in front of you with authentic japanese hospitality - what more could you ask for.

Highly recommended!! Not easy to find but worth the effort.

“Hidden treasure”
Reviewed 1 July 2010

The restaurant is quite hidden in a little backstreet, so that you almost miss it. You're sitting at the bar and can watch cooking process. The cook speaks a little bit english and can explain you the different tempura dishes (almost a dozen). The dishes were very fast prepared and are served out of the wok directly on your plate. As side dishes you receive a miso soup (mixed vegetables soup), pickles and some rice. For the tempura you get some different dips and herbs. We ate different fish and vegetables tempuras, which were all very delicious. Especially the taste of dessert "tempura vanilla ice cream" was surprising and tasty. The dishes are very reasonable priced.

“Excellent”

Lovely food and friendly staff. Chef spoke some English and explained what each tempura was i.e. Fish, eel, squash etc. Would definetely recommend this little restaurant. Did not feel rushed - very relaxed atmosphere. English menu and set menus available.

“Freshly prepared tempura”
Reviewed 25 December 2009

We chanced upon this eatery where the chef will only prepare the tempura upon ordering. The chef uses very fresh ingredients and the food prepared were really yummy. Do not forget to try the Chawamushi and the Tempura Ice-cream.
