The museum just at one of the exits of the Kenrokuen garden was a very good surprise. It exhibits many types of traditional arts and crafts developed in Ishikawa. It is a modern building with permanent collections and also special exhibitions.
The display is very beautiful and can be enjoyed very much.
It is a place that do not have to be missed when visiting the area.

This museum should not be confused with the nearby 'Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art'. I imagine it gets a lot less visitors, but is well worth a visit. One entrance is directly into Kenrokuen Garden so can be combined with a garden tour and provides an excellent foil. If visiting on a cold day IPMTPC will certainly warm you up - the heating was on full when we went.
The current main feature display is 'Great Grandma's old obi' which might sound boring, but certainly wasn't. [An obi is the wide silk belt round a kimono.] The examples were lent by local families and showed both ancient skills and the modern useage to which the families had put their ancient heirlooms. Other displays included modern local paper making, weaving, metal & woodwork, lacquer & toy making and there is a good selection of artwork for sale, which would make excellent souvenirs.
