In olden times the Samurai were well respected warriors and had lovely formal houses. Touring this house and its' gardens, what has been preserved, was very interesting. There are sliding paper doors, windows that overlook a garden pond.(This garden is considered one of the most typical works of the Kobori Enshu style gardens). The workmanship is lovely. Cyprus wood, elaborate designs in rosewood and ebony, painted panels....A very interesting place to visit in Kanazawa.

A good opportunity to see a Samurai house with a nice garden. It gives you some insight as to the wealth of this class of people.

However, it is one house with barely any information. There is a video playing in the entrance in Japanese so if you can understand Japanese you may gain some more knowledge. I would have liked to have found out more about the samurai, especially since this is the Samurai house.

If you are in the area you may as well pop in but I found it underwhelming. It costs ¥500.

This samurai house is a pristine example of a house of a high ranking samurai. Every room opens on some type of a Japanese garden. Some gardens are quite tiny, but still are lovely and bring a feeling of peace into the house. Many of us could be inspired by the amazing use of space and nature. The simplicity reminded me of the value of simplifying my life.

This house is definitely worth a visit, lovely rooms and gardens and a small but interesting collection of swords, documents etc.

We enjoyed this house because it gave us a feel for what life in the samurai class would have been like. The house itself is quite small with a magnificent garden at the rear.
