Toyoko Inn Kanazawa Kenrokuen Korinbo
Ranked #21 of 105 Hotels / Ryokan in Kanazawa
Reviewed 2 September 2013

We stayed at several Toyoko Inns during our vacation in Japan, and all were good value in convenient locations, but this one was a step above the others, perhaps to better fit in with retail neighbors like Louis Vuitton and Armani. The rooms are the standard Toyoko Inn with capsule bathrooms, but the lobby is very spacious, and they are well prepared to help tourists enjoy their visit with visitor brochures in English laid out.

We came by bus and left by train, but did not realize until now, reading other reviews, that there was a free shuttle (took a taxi). However, the attraction we came to Kanazawa to visit, the Kenruoken Garden, is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the hotel (as is a fantastic pedestrian shopping street and excellent restaurants.

In our expereince, Toyoko Inns are all really good. They are very good accomodation for the money, have a good service, and a great free breakfast. The Toyoko Inn Kanazawa Kenrokuen Korinbo has all of that plus an excellent location. Other than its distance from the train station, which is made up for by a shuttle, public buses, and easy taxis, this hotel is likely the best value one you can find in this location, close to Kenrokuen, Kanazawa Castle, the Samurai District, so much good food and shopping. I highly recommend!

This was our second Toyoko Inn experience and we found this to be quiet spacious for a business hotel. The location is fantastic - within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, the market, Kenrouken Garden $ Kanazawa Castle, the Samurai district and the 21st Century Art Museum. It's a bit far from the station, but they offer a free shuttle bus - when you exit the station, turn to the right. The shuttle is BEHIND all the construction going on (we had a bit of trouble locating it!). Otherwise it's about a 1000 yen cab from the hotel.

The Japanese-style breakfast was HUGE and plentiful, rooms were clean and actually a decent size, and the reception was very helpful - they even retrieved a prescription for me that I left when we checked out (they were very patient with us non-native speakers!). This is a great, very reasonably priced hotel for the location.

Arrived during Golden Week and the placed was packed.

Pro's. Location, close to the main tourist attractions - Gardens, Castle, Market and Samurai District. Many eating options nearby (Frangipani Restaurant - Yum!) in the Department store (Daiwa) across the road or in the nearby lane-ways. Staff were helpful. The free station shuttle was a really nice touch. The breakfast on offer catered largely for Japanese tastes (not surprisingly!) but a nice offering at this price point. A free tea dispensing machine in the foyer was great.

Con's - The room was small and the bed was hard - even by Japanese standards. Check in was pretty late, at 4pm but they did offer secure luggage storage. Internet was on offer but pretty slow.

Summary - Good hotel in handy location offered with a cheap room rate.

Title: One of the Better Toyoko Inns
ID#: 159094416

I stayed in a fair bit of Toyoko Inns across Japan. Toyoko Inn Kanazawa Kenrokuen Korinbo offers the best breakfast so far. I stayed for 3 nights and the main changed daily. First day it was scrambled egg, second day it was meat balls and third day, burger patties. Aside from that there were 2-3 types of rice (changing amongst white rice, fried rice, rice ball, porridge, ochazuke..), 3-4 types of appetisers like pickles etc, miso soup, 1-2 types of bread, coffee, and English and Green Tea. Actually there is a coffee/tea dispenser machine that offers these drinks 24/7.

There is also a shuttle service between the station and hotel both ways. From station in the afternoon and from hotel in the morning. Here is the link to the shuttle detail such as schedule & location at the station.
www.toyoko-inn.com/hotel/00171/bus.html

Location is excellent! Facing downtown yet five minutes walk behind the hotel you will find quaint traditional streets and canal. Also, it is so close to Kenrokuen etc. Basically it is right in the middle between the Northern and Southern attractions. So many buses passing and the bus stops just steps away. The hotel sells the One Day Pass which is applicable for all JR buses and Loop Bus but not the Flat Buses. Not sure about the Light-Up Bus which runs saturday evenings...

Many eateries and if you are too tired you can go across to Daiwa to buy the ready made food before they close at 7pm where almost everything would be on sale!

Its located right in the centre of Kanzawa and is one of the only few hotels that offer free shuttle several times a day to/from Kanazawa JR- which is about 10mins drive!

The Kanazawa Loop tourist bus stops right in front of the hotel.

Staff speak limited English but are always eager and willing to help!

I would highly recommend it!

We stayed for 6 nights at this hotel in April and I was more than happy with it. It's ideally situated right in the centre of Kanazawa, close to lots of shops, restaurants and the samurai area, with other attractions mostly within walking distance, or by bus (easy and reasonably priced). A lot of the hotels in Kanazawa are around the station but that's quite a distance from the centre,

Our room was bigger than I expected with good lighting and air con, fridge, tv, kettle and humidifier. The bed was a little hard for my liking but that's a personal preference, and there were only two pillows but they supplied extras when we asked. There is free (fast) wi-fi in the room, and free tea/coffee on offer in reception at all times. Breakfast was Japanese with sweet rolls or toast on offer as well.

All the staff were always polite and helpful (although I was disappointed not to receive a "lady's gift" from reception!) and the whole hotel was spotlessly clean.

The hotel provide a free shuttle bus to the station that runs at certain times, but when we arrived in Kanazawa it was pouring with rain (this happens a lot, apparently!) so we took a taxi which cost around 2,000 yen.

We also used the takkyubin service to send our large suitcases back to Tokyo when we left Kanazawa, it cost under 4,000 yen for two large cases and it's something I'd thoroughly recommend - no lugging suitcases up and down staircases at the stations! It isn't a service unique to this hotel, almost any hotel will arrange it for you, you just have to do without most of your luggage overnight as the cases are sent overnight to arrive at your next hotel (or the airport) the next day.

Out of three hotels that we stayed at in Japan, this was the best (despite the hard bed!).

Room Tip: Famly rooms looked to be much roomier.
