“Great surprise and value”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

Had almost given up and then there it was real country look . With some hesitation went in. Great country look. Nothing fancy here. Fresh vegetables and all else very tasty. Had their fresh sausage it was good. Glad we found it. Staff was very attentive but I can see how some may find it not friendly. Great prices . Don't. Pass it up

“Unless you're a "Regular" don't bother...”
Reviewed 12 April 2013

My Husband and I went in with our little one for what we'd hoped to be a nice breakfast. We'd been here on occasion in the past, although nothing spectacular, it offered a decent breakfast, and is close to home. Service had never been their specialty, but after our most recent visit, we decided for all future diner breakfasts, we'd instead be venturing to the northern side of the river.

When we arrived there were 2 other tables finishing up and a couple of patrons at the counter. We placed our order, were poured our coffee, and sat back chatting for a bit. 3 cups of coffee in (we're by no means huge coffee drinkers) we suddenly looked up and around and realized that not only did we not have our food almost an hour in, but there were 3 other tables who had arrived well after we had, one that had already received their food, and was heading out the door. As our waitress passed I politely inquired about our food to which she scrambled a bit and said she would check on it. She then passed us by taking more food to the two additional tables that had come in at least 1/2 an hour after we had and didn't say anything to us. All the while they were sharing photo albums, and chatting it up, making it quite clear that they knew each other fairly well. After several more minutes of waiting, I got up and (again, politely) approached the counter to inquire about our food. I asked our waitress, who turned to the woman cooking and stated "these people are looking for their food" to which the cook snapped back "WHO!"(now keep in mind, their "kitchen" is an open air kitchen on the other side of a counter). The waitress then pulled the ticket and acknowledged which one it was, to which the cook snootily screamed "...WELL MISTAKES HAPPEN". The waitress came over and stated that they would comp our check. We thanked her, and sat patiently for another 15 minutes as we watched even more food pass by to new people who had come in. An hour and a half into our visit we decided that based upon the staffs terrible attitude and the never ending wait that we were done. We got up, packed up our little one, and headed for the door. On the way out the woman cooking in the kitchen proceeded to sarcastically scream through the restaurant "Have a nice day".

We bit our tongues, and kept on walking. An hour and a half for some fried eggs, bacon, and toast is beyond patient. We were at no point rude and didn't do anything to receive the crappy attitude.

They made it quite clear where we as outsiders stood. Unless you plan to frequent this place on a weekly basis, don't bother. There are several other fantastic places in Amsterdam to get a good breakfast.

“South 30 Diner Go North!!”
Reviewed 12 November 2012

We have been to the South 30 Diner several times - always good but not this time - service was slow - the waitress was too busy showing off her new tatoo - while the cook was showing people christmas center pieces.
My husbands ham was deli style ham - not even warmed up and he was sick after he ate it all day - it is not what they have had in the past - must of ran out of the good ham!!
The 2 pieces of toast did not even have butter on them.
My pancakes were so so - nothing special.
They were also having a bake sale - which they spend time talking about.
Cross this place off your list!

“good choice”
Reviewed 23 August 2012

We've never been disappointed when we've stopped in here, whether for breakfast or dinner...One waitress is outstanding both in attitude and service, the others generally appear to be miserable and very unhappy/.

“Terrific Little Place”
Reviewed 20 August 2012

We ate breakfast here after staying a the Super 8, right off the NY Thruway. This little place is nothing to look at from the outside but the food was fantastic and the people were really nice. The decor is like eating in someone's kitchen. They grow some of the vegetables right out back. The French Toast was great.
