Toyoko Inn Kurashiki-Eki Minamiguchi
Ranked #22 of 40 Hotels / Ryokan in Kurashiki
Reviewed 18 July 2012

Kurashiki is a small but beautiful town, and this hotel was perfectly located near the station and within walking distance of all tourist attractions. The rooms are small but neat and tidy, and the service was friendly. The simple, free breakfast is a great way to start the day. Excellent value!

Just checked out--- and wish I'd stayed! It's 5 minutes from the station and 5 minutes from the most romantic area in all of Japan. Toyoko Inn Kurashiki is spotless, easy to find, single female friendly and has a simple healthy Japanese breakfast included in the room charge. There are three caveats: Can be noisy outside the hotel, as it's centered in the bar/pub district, there is no communal bath, and check in starts at 4pm. Otherwise, best 5000 yen you'll spend in Japan. Kurashiki is a "must" if you come to Japan. If you need a soak, choose Dormy Inn Kurashiki for an extra $25. If you need old Japan, choose Higashi Machi Ryokan.

Before talking about the hotel, I must recommend spending a day in Kurashiki. We visited Tokyo, Nikko, Kyoto, Osaka, Okayama, Kobe, Hiroshima, Miyajima - Kurashiki was a refreshing break from endless gardens, temples and castles (repeat). Kurashiki is very beautiful - once you get into the old town with the canals you feel like you've been transported back into the feudal era.

The Toyoko Inn is another decent Japanese Hotel - I will once again use the description - small , clean and a good night's sleep. It's definitely one of the more popular hotels - there seemed to be a lot of traffic in the lobby. When you check-in you get a little gift - a choice of a travel light or I think a little travel manicure set.

In the lobby they served free breakfast in the morning - don't expect anything special, just a very small continental breakfast if you could call it that. There are 2 PCs there where you can use the Internet. Also, there is a phone where you can make calls. They're not really equipped to manage calls, so just drop (forgot how much) into a little basket to call home.

Location-wise this hotel was farther than the other hotels (we tried to stay as close to a train or a subway station as possible), prob a 15 minute walk towing your luggage behind you.

For only 7400 YEN, this is a great little hotel in a small town that is definitely worth the visit.
