“Good hotel, very delicious breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2013

I slept in the New Urban hotel for one night in a single room. The room was really big, clean and had everything I needed. There was free internet access as well. There was a nice Onsen in the hotel, so you got a Yukata (traditonal Japanes clothes), which you could wear in the hotel. The staff was nice, but they couldn't talk English. They were really polite.
I only ate breakfast at the hotel, but I could choose if I want to eat Japanese style breakfast or not. They had a really big buffet-style breakfast and although I chose Japanese-style-food, they still provided some western style food as well. So don't be afraid to choose the Japanese breakfast. There is also local food, which usually would be really expensive. But there you could eat as much as you wanted.
The location is really convinient. It is only a short walk from Matsue castle and next to Lake Shinji. I had an amazing view from my room, so in the morning I could see the befogged lake, which looked really beautiful.

Room Tip: I recommend to choose a room with a view to Lake Shinji.

I stayed at the New Urban Hotel for one night and it was great! First, the location is really good, then it is directly at the river Shinji. So I had a beautiful view from my room over the lake. And you can reach the Matsue castle in like 10min. The room it self was big and had everything one needs. I even got a yukata for "Ofuro" (public bath") , which was on the third floor. The service was nice and friendly. They explained everything about the breakfast, room keys and gave me even a map with some restaurants near by. There were also some information in english in the room it self. For the breakfast i could choose between a western and japanese breakfast and I took the japanese one. It was a buffet with an amazing offer of delicious food, even fruits! Great!

The hotel is worn down, and rooms are dirty. We had to change the first room that they gave us, and when we came to the next room they tried to give us a smoking room instead. We refused and they took us to a third room, non smoking, but dirty floor and very worn down, view over a niche filled with steel rubbish and later the light stopped working in the bathroom.
The staff do not speak english, contrary to many other reviews, and aren't very helpful at all. You pay a lot of money here, and you do NOT get what you pay for. You will be wise to choose another hotel.

Stayed in the Matsue New Urban for about 3-4 days during spring.
Great hotel overall and definately recommended if staying over in this small town.

PROS:
* Low, low cost of stay compared to the rest of the country
* Convenient location and about 2 mins walk from Lakeline bus stop.
* Convenience store very close by, as well as restaurants.
* Free internet on terminal downstairs
* Washing and drying machine facilities on premises.
* Only minutes by taxi from JR station. (800 Yen approx)
* Free transportation daily to JR station before 9:30am

CONS:
* Small rooms and bathrooms, but this is typical of Japanese standards.
* No telephone close by that can make international calls.
* Can be hard to find initially as it is not street-facing.
* Has rooftop view, but you need to pay to access even as a guest.
* Hard pillows

Room Tip: Book online for the best deal.
