I needed a hotel at the last minute in Chiba and chose this establishment due to its low cost (8000 Yen for 1 night). I really had no idea what to expect because its representation on Expedia was very limited (not many pictures and minimal descrition).

I was surprised to walk into this amazing hotel - 5 star and very beautiful (I thought I'd just booked a budget hotel). The rooms were spacious, clean and luxurious and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The car parking was convenient and easy. I couldnt believe how amazing this place was. I strongly recommend this hotel and loved every minute I spent here.

Please note that Chiba is a business orientated area and not really for tourists. This hotel is located in a central business district and is very quiet in the evenings.

I attended a conference at Makuhari Messe but registered a bit late. That meant that the hotel choices, which are not as plentiful in the area as they should be, were less available. This represented the furthest I have ever had to stay for a conference in Makuhari. I found this place in Chiba city because it was just three or four stops on the train line away from the Messe. Hence, given the circumstances it was relatively convenient. The hotel ambience was quite a pleasant surprise as the lobby design was European-inspired. The rooms are on the small side but this is typical in Japan. The prices were very reasonable. The one downside was that there were few reasonable choices for dinner to which I could easily walk. This only came into play one night, however, as I was out with colleagues most evenings closer to the Messe. Overall, this was a very reasonable choice under the circumstances.

Have stayed in this hotel twice, first for a day in March 2005 and then for 4 days in February 2010.

Was a nice hotel, located at a 5 mins. walking distance from the metro station. Chiba downtown is also situated closeby, some 15 mins. walk from the hotel.

The menu was in Japanese but had pictures in it. The hotel staff, as most of Japanese are, were very courteous in their approach.

There's a chapel and indoor swimming pool here. Having an umbrella locker at the entrance was also a nice idea.

The room, though a bit small, was comfortable enough. The best thing I liked in the bathroom was ofcourse their commode with their personified jet. Another thing I liked there was that the mirrors were heated up so that that a certain portion doesn't get steamed up and you can see your face properly!!

This hotel is just 15min by train from Makuhari Messe and is a decent option if you do not get the hotels near the Messe.

Rooms are slightly cramped up but still better than the pigeon-hole sized rooms in most hotels in Makuhari area !
It is an elegant hotel with traditional French style decor and mainly frequented by Japanese nationals.

The biggest disappointment is the strictly limited food menu. There is hardly any non-Japanese dish available.
Also, apart from the Manager and Receptionist, the staff is not comfortable with the English language.

The hotel is mainly recommended for trade shows at Makuhari Messe.
The onsen spa at the hotel is the only place to unwind.

We used the Okura Hotel in Chiba as a base for a 2 week holiday, visiting my son, in Japan. I actually spent 6 nights in total at this Hotel on 3 seperate visits within the 2 weeks holiday.
The rooms were excellent in a western style.
Although we did not use the restuarant every day all the meals that we had were well prepared to a high standard with plenty of variety.
The service provided by all staff was of the highest standard.
For a relaxing holiday the general ambiance within the Hotel was best summed up as being "old world charm."
The location was good as the Hotel is 10 minutes walk from the monorail into central Chiba (takes 4 minutes) and one of the lines directly into Tokyo's central station which takes about 30 minutes by the express train.
I would not hesitate to stay in this Hotel on a future visit as it was "real value for money."
