“spacious by Japanese standards”
Reviewed 4 August 2011

We travelled here as a couple and found the room very large with a king bed and a sitting area. The bathroom had both a large tub and a shower. Breakfast offered both Japanese and foreign cuisine. Service throughout the hotel was amazing.

Stayed here with the hubby, who was attending a conference at Makuhari Messe. We stayed together one night at the New Otani, and one night here at the Manhattan, and I can say the Manhattan is a far better hotel. More personal, tastefully and beautifully decorated, and very attentive staff, at any hour of the day or night. The Manhattan is only slightly farther from the convention space than the New Otani, is often cheaper, and oh, so much nicer. Very highly recommended.

My son, husband and I stayed at the hotel for 3 days. While my husband attended a meeting, my son and I went sightseeing with the helpful tips of the concierge staff. We had a pleasant experience and we were very impressed by the hospitality we received from the both the concierge and bell staff.
The room was spacious and the bathroom was equipped w/ a powerful shower and had all the amenities needed.
We had breakfast at the hotel and the service again was superb.
Highly recommended!

We spent four nights at the Manhattan hotel - two adults and two children. We chose the Manhattan as our base while we visited Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea as the Disney Resort Hotels were too expensive for us. It takes about 25 minutes by local train (stopping all stations) to Disneyland or apparently about 15 minutes if you catch the 'rapid' or express train (we never managed to get that one). The train station is a 5 minute walk from the Hotel.

The hotel itself was beautiful. There are three entrances. The ground floor has a few boutique style shops including a bakery, clothing and jewellery. Gorgeous marble tiles and lovely chandeliers in the lobby area.

Most of the staff speak very good English, many fluently. Staff were keen and happy to help with absolutely anything. In fact there seemed to be an awful lot of staff standing around just waiting and hoping to help! Hot scented towels were provided while we went through the check-in procedure and bags promptly taken care of.

The room was one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. We had three king-single sized beds and one extra bed for the fourth person and there was still a reasonable amount of room for all our luggage. The beds were rather hard, but this seems the norm for Japan. The pillows were good which was a nice change from pillows we'd had in other hotels! Nice doonas on the beds. We had views of the nearby parks and gardens through the large windows. The room itself was nicely decorated and well furnished. Internet was available for about 1250 yen for 24 hours use.

The bathroom was absolutely beautiful - large and covered in marble. Separate large bath and shower and the usual heated-seat toilet/bidet that is common in Japan. Two huge mirrors, light dimmers and a small TV.

We only ate breakfast once at the hotel. Both Japanese and Western style breakfast is offered, but in separate restaurants. We had the Western breakfast which was fairly standard buffet fare - very nicely presented and a good selection of fruit. Eggs are cooked to your liking by the chef. It was good to have breakfast there the one time, but to save money I would recommend going to nearby bakeries for breakfast (one at the train station and one at the Garden Walk are excellent and cheap).

We went to try out the bar on the 21st floor, but were told ever so politely that children (no matter how well behaved) were not really welcome. It looked nice from the doorway anyway!

Finding accommodation for a family in Japan was a bit difficult, but this hotel was perfect for us. It would be a lovely hotel for business travellers or couples but was welcoming of children - they provided cute character slippers and special toothbrushes just for the kids. The Japanese Gardens are just across the road and lots of well priced restaurants and excellent factory outlet shopping is only a 5 minute walk away. The streets are relatively quiet so it's a nice place to get away from the crowds. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a base for visiting Disneyland or for any other visitor to Chiba.

  • Liked — Quiet, attractively and luxuriously appointed.
