With an early flight to Guam I prefer to stay at Narita instead of the long train trip from town. Especially as the rainy season has started.
Picked the Crowne Plaza, as Platinum IC hotel member I usually like their hotels. This Crowne Plaza is mostly typical of airport hotels everywhere - the hotel sees heavy occupancy, hard use with high-frequency comings and goings, and stupidly high room service prices. Breakfast here is ¥3300 - US$32. Obscene.
My room was large, clean, with terrific internet service but unfortunately almost no English-language television. In may places the English channels are being replaced by the Chinese.
However this hotel has one unexpected touch that rescues it from the rest. In the lobby is a FamilyMart shop, a Japanese convenience store chain. And unlike the gouging that occurs in many hotel shops, the pricing in this store looks to be the same as in town locations. Meaning a soft drink is $1.30.
