Location was absolutely ideal,it's near the main street w/ restos and stores all around yet
it wasnt noisy, in fact a very relaxing atmosphere! Infront the hotel was a very calm and scenic river and a little walk would take every tourist by surprise in a beauteous waterfall and a shrine. At night you could just walk around with your Japanese Yukata( robe) provided by the hotel and explore the beauty of nature in an amazing Japanese setting (that you only see in Japanese old movies) around the hotel's vicinity. Will definitely go back to this hotel in autumn to see the foliage and for relaxation. My kids and my parents, in fact the whole family loved this hotel so much!

Hotel Senkei would not allow me to book a single room, so I had to book a double and pay for two people/food for two people. They were concerned when I arrived and was one person, because they prepared food for two.

My room had an okay view - there was a cherry blossom tree outside my window. The rooms/suite was big. The bathroom looked like something out of the 70s, and although spacious, the room has no other features to warrant the high price tag.

The outside bath is nice, as is the inside bath, although I did expect more.

There was a hot water machine in my room, but I couldn't figure out how to get hot water to make tea. I couldn't figure out how to work the heat, so I was cold. Free wifi is only available after 6pm at the coffee shop or in the lobby.

I was very excited about Hakone. Love this town. But hotel Senkei , so far, won't be on my "must stay here again" list.

Dinner was definitely the highlight. An amazing array of tasty food. And my attendant (who spoke no English) was delightful, She helped me navigate my way through the non-English friendly room.

I would tentatively recommend Hotel Senkei, depending what other accommodations were available.

Good standard hotel which is a short stroll from the train station and Main Street in town. Staff were helpful and friendly. The outdoors rooftop onsen was wonderful, and well worth trying. Room was reasonable size and bathroom had basic amenities.

We stayed on a Saturday night at Senkei Plaza Inn. The location was ok, easy to access from the main station. Can walk or take shuttle bus.

We booked twin/tatami room, which has row twin-sized beds and tatami room which can accommodate two more people. We paid US$ 250 plus for the room (no breakfast or dinner).

The place was old. Room had quite strong smell, though.

The public bath was good and pretty spacious. They have men onsen and ladies onsen. They also have outdoor public bath which they alternate between men and ladies.

Wifi is available only at the lounge. The lounge and ramen shop were not very well maintained. Food quality was not up to standard but edible.

Overall, it is too expensive for what it is. I will try to book earlier to have more options when I visit hakone again.

Hotel Senkei is not worth the price. The onsen was fine, but very basic. The room was spacious, but very very worn out. There were obvious marks and dents on the walls. The website is very misleading, and makes it look much nicer than it is in reality.

The staff was not helpful. After we checked in, they dropped as off in our room without a word. They didn't explain a single thing about the onsen procedures, nor did they serve us tea. Not only is this sort of thing standard in ryokans, but it is listed on the Senkei website as part of check in procedure!

The woman who served us dinner did not seem happy to be there. She was pushy and impatient. She initially told us to take our time. Not long after, she returned to the room to check on us and said that we needed to hurry up! So much for savoring the meal (which was quite good! Dinner and breakfast were the best part of the stay!)

If you want a relaxing ryokan experience, try one of the ryokans in Kurokawa Onsen in Kumamoto.

this ryokan was a nice little walk away from the station meaning you got to see the lovely views (and the snow) but when we arrived there the staff were friendly and let us leave our bags as we were too early to check in. the staff spoke little english but were very helpful and took us to our room. the room was beautiful and a nice traditional feel, the bathroom was clean and tidy. we were provided with green tea and a biscuit on arrival to our room and the staff explained to us about the onsen and how to use the yutaka we were provided. the onsens were incredible, very clean and very quiet. there was also an outside onsen which was even more impressive as it had a nice view of the river. the staff came back to make the futon in the evening and in the morning brought our breakfast in to our room. the food was another traditional japanese breakfast and the staff tried to explain what it all was in her broken english. when we checked out of the hotel, we were chased by the receptionist as she wanted to give us a gift, a cute sushi pen!

For easy access, go to the bus station opposite of Hakone-Yumoto train station (you can see a coin locker shop and other convenience store opposite the train station - that's where the bus station is). Take A route bus (more like a coaster actually). You have to pay 100 yen per person. I suggest you print the name and address of the hotel in Japanese and show it to the person in charge at the bus station.

We had a room with dinner and breakfast plan. Room was huge - it can fit 7 people easily. The futon was thin so I didn't sleep well. Although we could ask for more mattress, I thought it should have been anticipated by the house keeping. View was okay too, nothing to shout about. The bathroom was huge but the floor was not heated, so if you didn't wear slippers your feet would be frozen. Water pressure was good but the water didn't heat, at all. So we had to bathe at the public onsen and only go to toilet when REALLY necessary.

Had to pay 150yen or so for internet connection but the strength was poor.

Dinner and breakfast were really an experience. We couldn't really finish the food - it didn't suit our taste bud. We asked for pescetarian meal but found chicken meat in the fish soup. Quite disappointed there since we emailed them numerous times to remind them on this.

Wanted to try the private onsen but was always taken up. The public onsen was good, huge and virtually visitor-less.

I'd recommend the hotel for family with kids and handicapped due to the location and facilities (there's elevator to get to rooms).
